Re: Discussion: Where should UPup32 go next?

Debian is currently undergoing migration to 64-bit timestamps in 32-bit packages (https://wiki.debian.org/ReleaseGoals/64bit-time) but this affects only Debian testing and sid (what will eventually become Debian 13, not 12) while this change is currently propagating into Ubuntu 24.04 (https://disco...

The issue are confirmed that it's been caused by the kernel.
Is there a way to change the kernel used in Puppy distros ?

You must use a "usrmerge" kernel with BookwormPup64 so most "old" kernels are not suitable......

@peebee I don't know if mixing Ubuntu 24.04 and Debian 12 packages is a good idea.

you probably get corruption, a crash or a security issue.

I guess we'll find out - seems to be working OK so far........... problem reports awaited

Any possibility of a 64bit version out of your Github collection, going forward? Or, are you anticipating a 64bit Wayland build of Noble Numbat (LTS)? You keep asking - still same answer.... :thumbdown: https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=10791 https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/woof-CE...

Hi, I still have little experience with Puppies, so maybe this is trivial, but can't find a solution to it. I've installed LxPupSc64 to a internal hard disk in frugal mode. In this case vda2, as it's running as a KVM virtual machine. At a shutdown, after installing some programs, I've saved the ses...

Well, I've tried to do a usrmerge build of NoblePup32 and all did not go well..... I set USR_SYMLINKS=yes in _00build.conf but the build failed.... Looking at 3builddistro: the chroot at line 713 is attempted way before line 1096: [ "$USR_SYMLINKS" = "yes" ] && usrmerge r...

You forgot to quote $0.
Should \$0 instead of $0 on line 2.
But why do it this way? Why not just use shell functions instead of eval?

Many thanks JB...... this is how Woof-CE 3builddistro actions the EXTRA_COMMANDS in _00build.conf

Thoughts from BarryK's blog on his experiences with overlayfs:

I just have to give up. When Dr. Okajima retires from developing Aufs, I will also retire from Linux development.

Looks to me like Ubuntu 24.04 is going usrmerge.........either partially or fully bash and udev have already changed which has caused recent problems so the question is should NoblePup32 go usrmerge? it would make all .sfs which contain bin or sbin or lib unusable......... and would make all old non...

@peebee
the reason is udev

used package version
libgudev-1.0-0_238-3_i386.deb
udev_255.2-3ubuntu2_i386.deb

created a symlink /sbin/udevd -> /usr/bin/udevadm

Now needed kernel modules becomes loaded automatically again and system is working fine

Excellent - many thanks
