Puppy on Mac: Keyboard backlight not working

Hi all! So I'm running FossaPup64 on a MacBook Air (MacBookAir5,1) and cannot get the keyboard backlight running. Running Lightum, I receive the following message: /sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness: No such file or directory It turns out that there is no applesmc ...

Re: Persistently Strange Behavior.... (Open location after running Pfind) [SOLVED]

Sounds like users now have a choice which way they would like Pfind to work. Freedom and (relative) ease to modify...isn't that one of the main reasons ppl. choose Linux, and particularly Puppy? :)

Re: Protonvpn for Fossapup

Proton upgraded their services at that time, it threw me for a loop as it affected all us Linux users who don't/can't use an "official" Linux release, at least those using the old CLI version. It's no longer supported.

Re: Thunderbird not opening links in Firefox SPOT

SOOOO sorry for the delayed reply! I just saw this reply. I've got to adjust my email prefs.... T-bird is not running as spot, although it is running through Tor. Firefox IS running as spot. I CAN drag the link to an open window, although that is no quicker than copying and pasting. I am hoping to ...

I am running it via OpenVPN. Instructions are on their website. Contacting the Proton people, there is no lack of security doing it this way.

Thunderbird not opening links in Firefox SPOT

Greetings! I set my default browser as firefox, run as spot. Now when I open a link in Thunderbird, Firefox always opens to the default page, not the link in an email. It's not fixed by adding "%u" to firefox, to firefox.desktop, or to the bash script I made to start firefox in spot mode, it must be ...

Re: Anyone using the Tor service on the command line in Puppy?

Ach! Silly me! http://mysterdee.com/smilies/rolleyes.gif I read too quickly and used the wrong port. All seems to be well now. So anyone wishing to run T-bird though Tor and not through the Tor browser -- using 90% less CPU -- the instructions are here . Just don't rush through it like I did at ...

Re: Anyone using the Tor service on the command line in Puppy?

Hi -- interesting to find this (so quickly!). I'm wanting to run Thunderbird email through Tor. This can be done simply by changing a few settings in T-bird and running it with the Tor browser also running in the background; however, I'd like to minimize resources by NOT opening the browser -- just ...

Re: security question -- spot, containers, google, EasyOS

Thanks, guys! @BarryK -- for the comprehensive answer. So spot = no access wherever. That will save me having to move to EasyOS ASAP in a production environment (i.e., no late nights learning and tweaking, I can experiment with Easy at leisure). @rockedge -- short, swift, and to the point. @williwaw ...

Hi! In my work environment I HAVE to access google (specifically, gmail and youtube). :x I've been trying to keep google from its nasty habit of pestering me even when I'm not using it and realized part of the solution is to use a different browser just for google (and youtube and whatever else I ...

BLUETOOTH & PIN The blueman included in F96-CE is a blessing! Persistently Strange Behavior.... (Open location after running Pfind) [SOLVED]

This I've noticed consistently through many, many iterations of Puppy. I search for a file using Pfind ((MENU>FILESYSTEM>PFIND FILE FINDER), see the file I want, right-click on it, choose "SHOW LOCATION," and receive the error message, "This operation requires single selection. Please select ONE ...

Re: F96-CE_4 Latest Stable Release

If you downloaded through the default setup of PPM, IDK why that would happen. You could uninstall, restart window manager, then reinstall xfburn. Personally, I use the "traditional, non-auto, user interface option" that forces me to look at the dependencies needed and check to install them. All ...

Thanks, Rockedge! "UPGRADING" I've been using FossaPUp for some time, now planing to switch over to F96-CE (version 4). a database for the rest of us.... (symphytum)

I confess...databases scare me. The ONLY database I ever used (and loved it!) was a DOS program back in the '80s called FrEd Base -- Free Educational Database. It was SIMPLE, intuitive -- not intimidating. A couple times I've played with LibreOffice's database. How good is it? I wouldn't know ...

Well...CTRL+C and CTRL+D didn't work -- and at any rate, now it's a moot point. Experimenting, I renamed my .config folder and rebooted, to see if the issue was in my personalized configurations. Re: Terminal command to exit to prompt

Hmm -- it turns out there must be a kink in my system. On another install of XenialPup on the same laptop, "jwm -exit" exits X and drops to the command line. That said, am I logged out or still logged in as root? FWIW, on my regular install of XenialPup, although "jwm -exit" does not drop to the ...
