How to connect with ADMTek AN983 NIC? (Solved)

Post by ge0kas »

I'm sorry to disturb but I cannot connect to the internet and I'm nervous!
I tried the "get driver from windows" button and pointed to the driver I collected from an XP installation but it says "Error driver"
I also tried downloading other Win drivers from internet.

NIC is ADMTek AN983 based Ethernet Controller
PCI\VEN_1317&DEV0985&SUBSYS_100C1734&REV_11

This ethernet controller seems require the (very old) tulip driver. Are you using bionicpup 32bit or 64bit?
Which connection program did you try? Simple Network Setup is good to try first - just right-click on taskbar network icon & then click setup networking & choose Simple Network Setup.

If you don't then see an eth option, you could try running (in a terminal): modprobe tulip
& then see if you can connect, but I would have thought the tulip driver was already loaded.

Thank you for your help.

32bit bionic 8.0 it is
Simple Network Setup DOES recognize the adapter and shows this
enp2s1 Wired tulip pci Digital 214 Tulip ethernet driver
and above this, a red line: "Currently No internet connection"
(Ofcourse I double checked the connection, it is ok, I even tested it on winXP on the other partition of same PC)
I press ensp2s1 button and it gives me a sign "There does not seem to be any netowrkconnected to ensp2s1"
I press windows, browse for the driver I got from XP installation and I get "Windows driver does not seem to work, it's been uninstalled"

Occasionally S.N.S. doesn't connect. There are 3 options when you try to set up networking via right click on taskbar icon, so try the Frisbee option instead. If it also fails try the 3rd more manual option & perhaps specify fixed ip.
Should that fail, worth checking for missing firmware - run in a terminal:
dmesg | grep irmware

You were right, Frisbee automatically connected! Thank you very much !!

If you would prefer to use Simple Network Setup, try the newest version. It is simple_network_setup-2.4, here:
viewtopic.php?p=2241#p2241

It waits a little longer for the device to respond during boot-up.
