Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
@Sofiya Well-that fresh dl and install worked beautifully. Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. Old age kicks in once in a while, I'm guessing.
Time for me to shut down for the day. Thanks again for your help.

mpv does not work if intel graphic driver installed
After installing intel graphic driver instead of using the modesetting as default. (/etc/X11/xorg.conf), MPV does not work after a reboot. I have Intel HD Graphics 530 card on the motherboard....

Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
Is there anything in the file /etc/environment?
Exactly what did you do to install Intel driver?
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected

nothing in the file /etc/environment.
to install intel, I edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf, changed the line
Driver "modesetting" #card0driver to
Driver "intel" #card0driver and rebooted.
confirmed with the attached photo and mpv fails to load, closes after one second...

Sometimes doing something, that is using the Internet to provide it, could just be the Internet at the time you do it.
If it is not doing this all the time.
Hard to figure out what is the cause.
I assume the preference settings in Brave are the same in both installs.
The same version of Brave?

I tried changing to intel driver in xorg.
MPV not working for me.
Glxgears will not work.
Change to modesetting driver.
Both now working.
So for now, I am going to use the modesetting driver.
I keep seeing info that the Intel driver is not as well supported and being kept bug fixed.

So the steps to install f96-CE_2 on a flash drive from which I can boot it is?
You download the iso, and then mount it by clicking it in Rox, which opens another Rox window showing the iso contents. Copy the files to a directory on your USB stick named something like: /fossapup64_9.6 then run grub4dos or frugal installer using grub2, whichever fits your machines bios boot protocol better.
I haven't run Bionic for some time, but I think it should have the iso mounter built in and grub4dos for sure.

@gychang
For me, MPV works smoothly with the intel video driver when F96-CE is installed on my ThinkPad Yoga laptop with builtin Intel Graphics [8086:0f31].
Possibly, the intel driver does not fully support your specific display hardware.
For example, some older intel video chips do not fully support the default intel 'sna' acceleration, in which case some applications may malfunction or even crash. You could try switching to 'uxa' acceleration as described here:
Alternatively, as BigPup suggested, maybe reverting to the working modesetting driver is your best option.

Thanks your instructions were perfect. Once again a painless puppylinux install. I used the grub4dos after moving the files.
Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
following up on my new exploration of F96-CE_2.
Figured out the app on the right hand size was conky. np
I realize that many users are Google-Chrome adverse.
I prefer to use it. I downloaded and installed the latest .deb release and it cries that there isn't a directory in /root. and thus not function.
Is there an appimage of anydesk that is F96-CE_2 useable. I use this application in Bionicpup64 to help my relatives on thier computers, ie. Windows computers.
Thanks in advance.

Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
@ndujoe2 The best method is to use one of @mikewalsh's portable browser versions.
This is the one for Google-Chrome -> viewtopic.php?t=146
you might be abel to fix the current one you have by creating the missing directory. But you'll be better off using the portable version,

Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
@ndujoe2 :-
Two snags with trying to use the .deb directly under Puppy.
One, it expects to find a standard, restricted-permissions multi-user environment.....that's what it's been written to work with.
Two, it has a nasty habit of screwing-up CUPS permissions on the pup_rw layer.
If we don't run it as restricted user 'spot', it absolutely will not run. Won't have anything to do with us. Which is why I can't understand what you mean by 'can't find a directory in /root'. It doesn't want to know about /root..!
The portable-Chrome keeps everything in one location, along with re-enforcing permissions (via 'chown') in its self-contained 'spot' environment every time you launch it. And it'll keep itself 'current' via the built-in updater.....
Mike.

Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
There are many forum users like you. Chrome provides some excellent features along with the 15GB storage is one uses their Google ID.
F96 is a UPDATE to FossaPUP64. F96 is smooth, stable, and fast ... like FossaPUP64. AND it is capable of running the same programs found in its PPM as well as forum member contributions found on this
FossaPUP forum thread.
For Chrome, I use, IMHO, the best PET available for Chrome which, for me, allows a good approach for updating Chrome when necessary.. @ETP offering is the best for me and you might find it 'too simple' in what it does to add Chrome to your F96. He describes it here as "Google Chrome running as root".
If you choose his PET expect:
- Add the PET to your F96
- Open F96's Menu>Internet>Get Latest Chrome Version
It will add an up-to-date running Chrome to your F96CE
Reason: corrected F94CE to F96CE

Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
@ndujoe2 :-
Heh. I wouldn't say they're averse to Chrome itself (it's a darned good browser; I've used it ever since its inception, all the way back in Autumn 2008).....they're just averse to 'Big Brother' rootling through their data and doing with it what they will!
Hence why UnGoogled Chromium is becoming so popular. The build I use - by one "Marmaduke" - includes Widevine, and all the necessary bits'n'bobs to play back any media with ease.....but it's had every single Google API and/or 'hook' removed. With extreme prejudice!
(Makes installing extensions/themes from the AppStore an interesting excercise, though it IS 'doable' when you know how...)

Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
This is because I used it here.
viewtopic.php?p=60699#p60699
I am running it on another usb now but I would like a newer Slimjet browser.
I have had a look around before posting.
Thanks to all....Chris.
Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
Annoyingly the browser wouldn't give me sound.
And upon opening multi tabs came up.
Anyway not to worry...I will run an older Pet and see if it works..see if it updates.
My attitude these days if that is all that goes wrong...It's not such a bad thing.
Ventoy I would like to work though.
Cheers,,,Chris.

If I made a USB image available for you, would you be able to "dd ..." it to one of your USB sticks using any LInux distro?

Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
I am going to assume you have made your Ventoy and are housing all of the forum distros in a folder on your USB named 'BOOTISOS'. (Those instruction have been posted numerously on the forum for Ventoy users.)
If so, please add any distro of your choice from the KL section of this forum to that folder alongside all the other ISO files you have there. Then boot the USB selecting the KL distro(s) you added.
Report back here please.

Re: F96-CE_2 Latest Stable Release
I prefer browsers without a lot of gimmicks and 'call home to mommy features'. I have Mike's Slimjet 35.0.1.0. It can't render sound. Neither can Mike's latest Iron and many other web-browsers. Maybe Ungoogled-Chromium can. But I find it too difficult to work with. I'll try to work with one of the Chromiums. Haven't yet. Where I left off testing web-browsers about a month ago --before a vacation and covid-- there had been substantial improvements in preserving pulse-audio settings. But first you had to be able to set them. Only the following current versions could use Pulse-Audio : firefox-quantum, Waterfox, Waterfox-classic, Brave, Vivaldi and, of course, Chrome. Untested, but probably LibreWolf.cthisbear wrote: Thu Mar 16, 2023 3:06 am OK! I found Mike's Mega site and tried Slimjet.

You may have success with an older version of slimjet. Although the latest version of Iron doesn't, MikeWalsh's Iron version 93 does render sound. I can upload it if you want. But frankly --despite my earlier misgivings-- I now use Brave. It works well and has received the Slant community's approval for security.
Edit: peebee's 64-bit 111.0.5563.64 Chromium.SFS linked from here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 015#p81015 runs well and produced sound OOTB. Although by now I've grown accustomed to working with portables, as the Chromium SFS meets all my preferences, I may have to relearn how to make the most of SFSes,
Again, peebee.
