That I've noticed.
I'll run Firefox off a USB 2.0 standalone.
Decompressing nothing, the speed handicap is straining the CPU running these big browsers and loading pages, no matter how/where the app is stored (save anything short of a USB 1.0).
Don't wish to go too off topic here. On track is Bionic offers Places in a Upup (currently using it in Slacko6).
Is that better than:
LxPup Xenial?
Hacking glib or whatever for alt-FM mounting in Mainline Xenial?
Trying to make X-Tahr do everything Xenial JWM does?
Hacking Places into Tahr/Xenial?
Further in terms of speed. I have a usb 2 sd card. Best for optimum performance: Compress all your sfs's (all drives and extra sfs's) with gzip compression > copy all your drive sfs's to RAM at bootup (I load the sfs's I always use like the browser, Wine, Java as a bdrv, cdrv, etc). This takes a bit longer at bootup because everything is copied to RAM but it's well worth it (you need sufficient RAM of course). Performance is as fast as my hardddrive (remember this is usb 2, usb 3 will be even faster). If you choose pfix=nocopy, you should definitely compress all your sfs's with gzip for faster performance (especially when using a flashdrive). In fact, I think xz compression has more disadvantages these days now that disk space is not really a problem anymore. It's just slow in comparison. XZ compression is good for compressing to a smaller size for distribution purposes but really not for anything else in my opinion.
