For me, this subject is important enough to start a new thread. I am interested in learning more and think that other beginners and/or sometimes users like me could benefit greatly. Therefore, I am copying Mike's post here sot that it can be discussed since it started in a post about my issues with Pale Moon.

Oh, no. My 'Puppy-portables' are Linux, through & through. They are NOT Windows 'portables', and you do NOT need WINE to run them. And they all use 'proven' Linux apps at their heart; what I've done is to package them in such a way as to keep all the config stuff/settings (which any app will generate) self-contained, in one place, so it can be moved from one system to another.
I've always liked the 'portable' concept - AppImages, in particular, being a favourite of mine - but the one thing that's always niggled me is the way they generate yet another set of config files whenever you move them from one OS to another. It's this 'duplication' that I've sought to avoid; the Windows 'PortableApp' had this concept nailed-down many years ago, yet Linux developers can't seem to get their heads around it.
The portable-browser concept originally evolved in Puppy as a way of keeping the browser cache - which CAN grow to huge proportions, as you know - outside of Puppy's 'save'. However, it tended to be limited to a single, fixed location. I've simply taken it a step further, that's all, and made it truly 'portable'.
Each of my portables also offers the ability to add a MenuEntry from wherever they happen to be located. Or, they can always be run from their 'LAUNCH' scripts.
The choice is, as always, down to the individual user. Nobody's forcing ANYONE to use anything.....it's just another 'option'. I'm not holding a gun to anyone's head!
Mike.
So Mike, whee can I find these portables? As you know, I am a Chrome guy, let's start there.

Re: Portable Apps
Use the search box and query the term “portable chrome.” It should give you a list of places to start or go here viewforum.php?f=90
You should be able to find his browsers listed here.

Re: Portable Apps
@DeeMal :-
I think what I'd best do is to start another topic with a complete listing of all the 'portable'' Puppy app threads I've started, since they're scattered all round the "Additional Software" sub-forum. It's something I've been meaning to do for a long while; gather everything together in one place. I'll probably make it a sticky in that section.....possibly in the "AppImages, Snaps & Flatpaks" area.
Bear with me. It needs doing....

Re: Portable Apps - Complete current listing of Puppy 'portables'...
Okay, gang. I've created a complete listing of stuff I've created in 'portable' format. No doubt I've missed stuff; I've already realised I've built a half-dozen or so that I haven't even yet published..!!
The listings will get updated as new stuff appears.
Anyways; the 'portable' listings can be found here:-
Hope that helps some of you.
Mike.

Re: Portable Apps
Great stuff Mike!
I think portability, as you explained to me & the community, is a great addition to this fantastic program. I look forward to this journey, sharing it with others, and supporting it in many ways.
Best regards.

Re: Portable Apps
@DeeMal :-
Well, have an explore, and see what ya think. Most are 64-bit; some have 32-bit versions - it'll say where they're available in the specific threads - and don't forget; the script for adding a menu entry is not compulsory, just an added 'extra'.....many people will always just use the 'LAUNCH' script within the portable directory. The 'MenuReadMe' explains how to use them, anyway.
Enjoy!
