Regarding MTP and PTP not working with my one Galaxy S III phone:

"It strikes me that bionicpup32 which you have installed does not have this program available ...
however I have this pet that I had previously extracted from this same puppy (Bionicpup32) for other personal purposes
I hope this pet solves your problem

conect_android-1.2"

I downloaded and installed and it told me "an error occurred". The phone itself appears to have a hardware problem. Thanks for the pet and it may prove useful in other situations.

It is the latest ydrv for bionic.

Another question, The adrv, fdrv and zdrv aren't updated with new versions?

No they're not updated.

I have to assume that you are adding the LXDE desktop.......

@ripper10
Type of install? Frugal or full?
Place installed? USB stick, disc, cd/dvd?

I believe it is a frugal install, on an internal HD.

Another problem I am having right now is with the ydrv.sfs. If I install it I get this error message at startup:

GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit was not provided by any .service files

Furthermore, the destop manager is reported as not active and the entry in the Setup menu that allowed me to switch between lxde and jwm is gone.

Hi @peebee @ripper10
Same problem and observation when change from LXDE to JWM

Which desktop are you in?
What is reporting?
What are you doing when you get the report?

That error message can be ignored.

Hi @peebee

In my case I start with LXDE and make the change to JWM, as soon as the session starts, this warning appears "GDBus.Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit was not provided by any .service files "
I have made two checks, one doing the normal setup and saving session and the other is without making absolutely any changes and saving session and the problem is the same ...

This warning only appears on the JWM desktop, in LXDE it does not

A pristine frugal install with:
bionicpup32-8.0+28-uefi.iso
ydrv_upupbb_19.03.sfs of 24/april/21

works fine for me.

You can get rid of the error message by deleting /etc/xdg/autostart/lxpolkit.desktop which appears after you switch to jwm

In my case I am stuck in JWM because I lost the entry in the setup menu that allowed the switch. What's the name of the program that does the switching?
Could I do a pristine frugal install and paste my pupsave folder back?

Has anyone had any luck with a zoom, skype or messenger type program that uses a webcam? I'm trying to help my cousin with his computer or phone and it's really difficult for him because he can only use one hand. If I had a webcam pointed at his computer screen or phone it would make things a lot easier. After doing a search for messenger a program showed up ekg-core_0.4 instant messenger and IRC client for unix system- main program. I appreciate any help.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply bigpup. I thought we were only supposed to install programs either in ppm or sfs files in the puppy operating system. The google duo program looked good for 32 bit computers but Mike's link directed me to the google duo site. Would google duo work with bionicpup32? I appreciate the help.

Hi bird dog,

Sorry that I can't directly help with your inquiry. But thinking outside-the-box, I have to ask: "Is there any particular reason your cousin is using a 32-bit operating system?"

We maintain 32-bit systems for "old/low-resource" computers; and because some fans just like them. But any computer manufactured in the last decade with at least 1 Gb of RAM --2 would be better &/or a swap can be added-- can run a 64-bit OS. The difference in resource usage is hardly noticeable; if at all. And it's getting increasingly difficult to maintain 32-bit systems which are both functional and useful.

A frugal install only requires its own folder. So your cousin could keep what he has and transition to a 64bit OS without any loss.

Thanks for responding mikesir. The reason my cousin needs a 32 bit operating system is because his computer is a pentium 4 and its twenty years old. The only os the cpu can run is a 32 bit os. This bionicpup32 runs very well on his machine and all my cousin and I can hope for is that people like Peebee continue to keep bringing out these great products for older computers. That's the main reason I went with puppy in the first place, because these operating systems run great with older computers.

Thanks

How do I display to a TV via hdmi cable? xrandr only finds the laptop monitor. It could also be Bionic64. Laptop is from about 2012 and displays at 1366x768 as does the TV.

We were given a nice 2006 SHARP 26" AQUOS with good sound and display up to 768p, which works with the hdmi output from my Razr MAXX but only at 360p, which looks rather fuzzy. A circa 2012 Windows 10 laptop can extend its screen to the TV (set to HDMI input) but not duplicate it properly because of resolution mismatch. We have no newer laptops.

My newer phones do not have hdmi ports. Nor do my other computers. Can I display via wifi from linux?

I use older laptops because they have non-glare screens that are not super wide. The 2012 ones are super wide but so is Youtube. Dead keyboard controller but works with USB keyboard.

Zarfy does not detect the hdmi port so I gave up on an hdmi connection from laptop to Sharp Aquos TV (circa 2006). I have not yet found a way to watch all youtube videos with Bionic32 and youtube-viewer 3.7.4 (or 3.7.6). Android 4.4 works.

Can Zoom32 (downloaded from zoom site, add qt5 core and libxcb-test with ppm) be made to work with Bionic32? I get a segfault and exit 139.

HDMI port also not detected on a DELL laptop from 2009 (matte screen) with missing caddy and adapter (via eSATA cable).
Playing with laptops is much more fun than watching Youtube on any size screen.

Bionic32 forcepae works perfectly so far on a 2004 ASUS M5000/M5N with 512MB of a proprietary microDIMM - sound, wifi, video.
Other puppy linuxes have various shortcomings. 1.6GHz, ipw2200, 40GB added hard disk.

pale moon 24.9.1 does not appear to work at the sign-up page. Nothing happens when I type.

It also does not work to sign up for booster shots at Rite-Aid (cannot enter numbers, then crashes) or Kroger (gets stuck chasing its tail).

I may try android to sign up.

With Android 5.1, Lightning (latest) has no place where I can type my email address. The text is very dark blue on black, nearly invisible.
Chrome 78 lets me type it and says I already have an account. I asked for password help and it never arrived at my email account.
Would a later kernel really help with hdmi port from over 10 years ago?

The above might be a combination of factors which leads me to suggest using slimjet portable from here, viewtopic.php?p=33582#p33582. Running it under Bionicpup64 with 32-bit compatibility SFS loaded I was able to access riteaid's covid scheduling web-page and begin filling in the information requested. I didn't complete as I'm already scheduled for the booster at CVS and operate under the principle that the less personal information I transmit over the Web, the better.

I followed your link to Slimjet portable, chose 32-bit, then tried to open an account. It liked my login and password but the submit button was greyed (or pasteled) out and does not work with Pale Moon 29.4.1 (latest). What browser should I be using with Bionic32?

Rite-Aid lets me start to schedule but at the address line it will not accept my street number (with Pale Moon 29.4.1), nor can I use Backspace to delete (I am forced to use the touchpad and replace everything I typed). What current browser works better with Bionic32 Puppy?

Mike Walsh appears to be the resident expert on portable 32-bit browsers. There are several to try.

Firefox 91 ESR 32-bit worked once I turned off NoScript (though it is no longer the latest version) at the Rite-Aid site. Kroger went hunting for appointments and never got there, same as with Pale Moon. Walgreen will only let you sign up for the same vaccine as the original and there was nothing at all local.

Firefox now works with Youtube and sound. Perhaps it will work at MEGA site too.

How lovely to have a forum with such helpful users.

My apologies, sindi, I wasn't thorough in my response. I suggested there might be a number of factors.
Kroger was slow to render pages and respond to clicks: it didn't always do what I expected. But sometimes my wifi network is slow and my impatience results in clicking too soon with unexpected results. But I should have mentioned that trying to access Kroger revealed 3rd-party trackers. That suggested a poorly constructed website, perhaps because Kroger is 'new to the game'. I install 'anti-tracker' addons, but figured a fresh deployment wouldn't have them. I think, however, vivaldi has its own builtin.
Another factor is that many websites only allow access to firefox, google-chrome and Edge. Palemoon with a 'spoofing' addon might work, but then again it might not. That was my initial thought and the reason I tried other web-browsers. But it should have led me to firefox immediately. When slimjet seemed to work with RiteAid, I stopped exploring and just reported what appeared to be a solution.

Seamonkey 32-bit portable also worked with Rite-Aid and got nowhere with Kroger. We are scheduled now.
The michigan.gov site appears to have lots of html errors which firefox manages to ignore.
I will put Firefox 91 ESR on my second newest (2009) laptop with 2GB RAM and Bionic32 to share with someone about to be paroled who needs it to run his aquarium fish importing business, and hope to train him to use linux. (It also has Vista as a backup).

Doesn't PM already identify as Firefox?

32-bit portable vivaldi (opera) from March 2021 presumably 3.7 also installs and works with Rite-Aid (at least gets past the first problem) on a 2009 HP DV2 with 2GB RAM. The keyboard shortcuts are quite different from Firefox-related browsers.

Does anyone know the software requirements for parole monitoring software?

Zarfy works to display via HDMI from the 2009 HP dv2, to two newer TVs, and to our 2006 Sharp Aquos but only a 480p with the resolution and colors way off. There is no resolution match that works. 720p / 768p are interchangeable on the newer TV.

The 2009 laptop sound is bad, including via hdmi. NY will have to say whether linux is allowed on monitored computers.

Ohio Parole does not require computer monitoring software. They also do not allow phones with cameras.

NY Parole requires flip phones (no internet). The rules would be additive. I found a $40 voice only and a voice/text KosherPhone from mraberthon.com. There are many other KosherPhones which are smartphones that restrict use. This Alcatel Quickflip is restricted via software from using FM radio, video, internet in general. The parole officer said he would access the phone once in a while to make sure nothing was downloaded (apparently Ohio allows downloads but not cameras). He said people disable their phones but he did not know how. Ohio parole people have been uniformly helpful, friendly, and polite. NY not polite, and MI refuse to talk to people.

Not specific. But, you can make use of OSMO's scheduling feature to (a) schedule appointments with Alarms which will present desktop displays and sounds. Osmo can be included in the Startup so that it will open on bootup.
