pEqualizer not working in Bionic 32 with GNOME-MPlayer

Post by amethyst »

Not working for me (I mean it loads but has no effect on the sound). Is this a known issue and can it be rectified? BTW - It works with pMusic.

Hi,

@amethyst

i use toutou linux slaxen 6.0 i686 32 bit, esmourguit's french derivative.

i had the same problem.

i workarounded it :
1 - launch pequalizer from the launcher or a terminal,
2 - open an other terminal (if you used a terminal to launch pequalizer)
3 - go to the location of the file to be read
4 - type
mplayer -ao [mixer: in my case it is alsa, so mplayer -ao alsa] [file_to_read.extension]
For the file to be played, we are subject to the ffmpeg constraints.
5 - press Enter
6 - adjust pequalizer settings

The presets are gathered under :
/root/.pequalizer/preset
The files are in text format.

Friendly.

Thanks for the reply. I did get it to work, can't remember what the problem was and what I did. Actually I think I know. You have to start pequalizer before you start mplayer.

@amethyst :-

FWIW, Rantanplan is right, Nic. I discovered this myself sometime ago; pEqualizer DOES work, but you MUST start it before whatever you wish to use - audio player, media player, whatever.

I don't know why, but if you start the equalizer AFTER the application, it won't do anything. I think this is because pEqualizer somehow temporarily "takes control" of the audio output when it starts..? If you start it after your app, then your app has already taken control, and pEqualizer is then ineffective...

Certainly, it works like this with audio players. I'm not so certain about using it with videos. Doesn't Gnome-MPlayer have a built-in equalizer, like VLC or SMPlayer?

Mike. ;)
