Using Bookworm Pup64 and at start up everything works. Then all of a sudden the plugged in usb keyboard and mouse do not work. Lights are still on the devices.

Anything you did just before this happened?
How are they plugged into the computer?
USB ports on the computer or by a USB external additional ports device?
Do you get them back after doing a reboot or full power off/on boot up?
Are you using the latest version of BookwormPup64 10.0.7?
If no.
You need to use this version.
How is BookwormPup64 installed and on what type drive?
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.

Re: USB keyboard and mouse stop working after a while. Does anybody know what's happening?
From your post in BookwormPup64 topic.
I can see them in hardware info and the lights are still on. The built in trackpad and keyboard work.
So this is a laptop computer?
For the mouse.
In menu ->Setup ->PupControl ->Hardware ->Input Devices ->touchpad
Have it turned off.
This keeps them both from trying to control.
You want to have only one working.
Probably also need to shutoff the laptop keyboard, but not sure how you would do that.
Maybe something in the computers bios setup has this as a optional setting.
Keyboard enable/disable.

Re: USB keyboard and mouse stop working after a while. Does anybody know what's happening?
After disabling the track pad I could not move the mouse so I rebooted. Not convinced that this is a solution because normally on initial boot both mouse and track pad work.
It just happened now as I opened a document from libre office calc that was improperly closed due to shutdown without saving. After clicking ok to recover the spreadsheet I was working on the usb mouse stopped working.

Still trying to solve this problem. It happened again with inkscape and web browser and a few file manager windows open. I see in the processes dialogue something unfamiliar "Isolated Web co". I wonder if I can launch terminal with the laptop keyboard and kill that process?
Or if there are any other ideas...

How exactly are the USB keyboard and mouse hooked to computer?
Different USB ports on the computer or anything like a USB hub being also used?
Did you ever check in the computers bios setup for any setting to disable the builtin keyboard?
Tried to plug into different USB ports?
Well, you are assuming nothing is wrong with the USB port.
Looked for any damage in the USB port?
Dirty.
Bent contacts.
I can not replicate your mouse issue.
I am on a laptop and using BookwormPup64 10.0.9.
USB mouse plugged in.
Have touchpad disabled.
No issues.
With touchpad also enabled.
It and the mouse will try to make different things happen, if a do not make sure to not be touching the touchpad.

Re: USB keyboard and mouse stop working after a while. Does anybody know what's happening?
Everything is plugged into the computers usb slots. There is no hub.
It happens if I leave the computer on long enough. Last time it happend I was using libreoffice and Firefox. Left them both on, when for a walk, when i came back a few hours later the mouse and keyboard didn't work. The right click on the touch pad worked.
After reboot everything is back to normal working order.

This has happened to me, years ago in various versions of Puppy Linux. I never figured out the cause, but I suspect it was Firefox. You can use the latest version of Firefox without installing anything. Just go to Mozilla.org and download the latest version of Firefox for Linux. Unpack it and make it executable, then click on the gear-shaped icon inside labeled Firefox. Walla, you're running the latest Firefox. Try it and see if it solves the problem.

Re: USB keyboard and mouse stop working after a while. Does anybody know what's happening? (BookwormPup64 10.0.9)
I tried and downloaded firefow v135.0 it opens. Does not load any addresses. When I hit enter after typing a search term in the address bar.. nothing. Also can not sign in and now the cursor is frozen...
After a restart I did not open firefox. Working only with libreoffice base and calc... after 30 min usb input devices freeze.

You can not sign in to what? Also, it sounds like Firefox didn't connect to the Internet. How are you connected to the Internet?

Dell Latitude laptop
What model number? There are many of them.
Example:
5400
3550
7430
E7430
If this laptop has a cooling fan.
Make sure the inlet and outlet ports are clean.
Could be overheating.
Try using different USB ports.
Make sure the USB plug seems secure in the USB port.
Check for dirt or bent contacts in the USB ports.

Are these cable connected to USB ports or wireless connected with a USB dongle?

Could it be usb auto suspend causing the issue of usb mouse and keyboard becoming unresponsive and still powered on?

Re: USB keyboard and mouse stop working after a while. Does anybody know what's happening? (BookwormPup64 10.0.9)
It sounds like USB input devices are being detected but becoming unresponsive after startup. Try these solutions:
1. **Check for Power Management Issues:**
- Open a terminal and run:
```bash
sudo tlp start
```
- If TLP is installed, it may be disabling USB power. You can also try:
```bash
sudo tlp usb off
```
2. **Restart USB Services:**
- Run:
```bash
sudo modprobe -r usbhid && sudo modprobe usbhid
```
3. **Check Dmesg Logs:**
- Run:
```bash
dmesg | grep usb
```
- Look for errors or disconnections.
4. **Try a Different USB Port:**
- If using a USB hub, connect directly to the PC.
5. **Disable USB Autosuspend:**
- Edit the GRUB file:
```bash
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
```
- Add `usbcore.autosuspend=-1` to `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT`.
- Save, exit, then update GRUB:
```bash
sudo update-grub && sudo reboot
```
If the issue persists, try a live USB session to check if it’s hardware-related.
