Menu -> Help -> Notes: (/opt/scpup/scpup-hints.txt)

3. fdrv firmware
The fdrv contains a subset of possible firmware. If a device (e.g. wifi) fails to work then it may be because needed firmware is missing. The dmesg command (dmesg | grep firm) should give clues as to what firmware is required. The full firmware sfs should be downloaded from http://www.fishprogs.software/puppy/firmware-sfs/ and the needed firmware extracted and put into /lib/firmware.

=================================
To remove the Sylpheed popup (thanks to @Marv)
Navigate to /usr/lib/sylpheed/plugins/. Rename test.so there (I use test.so_hide) to 'hide' it. Save (we'll assume you're using a savefile or folder) and reboot. That popup should be gone.

Dear Peebee
I tried your latest S15Pup64-22.12+1 and I had a very difficult time connecting wifi to the internet.
As you see in the picture below neither SNS nor Frisbee see the interface even when connected through it! Thank gawd I could still remember how to use the old networksetup that cumbersome as it may be was the only one that worked!
I do not know if this is because I use the wl driver or is a more general issue but you may want to take a note.
Thank you.

Dear Clarity I'm confused.
Do you actually suggest that the link peebee has posted in the first post of this thread is not the correct one?
But more important is a fresh S15Pup64-22.12+1 install finds WiFi without any problem in your system?

Hi @retiredt00,

As for your wifi problem, I'm afraid I can't help - I use ethernet, which works fine. But i can see many neighbour wifis if I choose wlan0 ... through SNS.

What @clarity probably meant is that @peebee released an "update" to +1 shortly after the basic versions of s15pup32/64 + 0 were released.

Here is the link to his post where he explained why:

@peebee - despite Distrowatch mangling the name, their link is correct & downloads the correct iso automatically, when clicked.

@peebee - Your 6.1.0 64b kernel seems quite at home in S15Pup64 22.12 +1 (and in VoidPup64 22.02 +12). All the usual low level tests and a bit of light use so far on each. An aside; With S15Pup hitting the road so sucessfully and with the LXDE ydrv working well (for me anyway) to give a functional equivalent of LxPupSc, is there much percentage in continuing to support the LxPupSc pups? Probably some value in testing the current slackware but how many of us are there here in the Sc and LXDE camp?

Cheers,

Frugal install
Graphics hardware Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060

First boot it did not automatically setup the graphics.

Stopped with message to run xorgwizard.

Had to run xorgwizard and set it to modesetting driver, resolution, and color depth.

Have not had to do this for a long time with Puppy versions released over the past 5 years.
They usually just auto setup graphics as part of the boot process.
Go directly to the desktop with graphics correctly set for the hardware.

@peebee

This is a review comment made at Distrowatch about using S15pup

Is there any info about what they posted you can comment on?

I installed the 64 bit version on my laptop. Everything works normally except wifi.

We find there the usual universe of Puppy. All the software for daily use is there as usual.

This is often the case for Puppy with a Slackware or Void database. I tried to load the modules corresponding to my laptop but nothing worked.

I'm just going to go back to an Ubuntu-based Puppy and continue using EasyOS.

Why make it simple when you can make it complicated!

Not sure that we will attract followers with this version…

This post is NOT an endorsement nor a reenforcement of the Distrowatch commenter. RATHER, one point of view is that he alludes to the desire that if we can make it easier/easiest vs builder for a developer to use, it may attract more users.

Again, this is just a view of what that user is trying to suggest. In our 64bit world, it certainly has changed from the days of 32bit yesteryear such that the systems of beefier and more capable than the past world we used to reside. Thus that consideration is probably based on other Linux distributions which come prepackaged with a wider firmware packaging.

For me, I am happy. But I do understand what an inexperienced user faces. Thus I am happy with the current packaging while others report issues.

+2 updates are available

Main change - now Github builds so .iso is bigger because the fdrv is bigger (comes from kernel-kit)

As a result, updates to both the .iso and also just the puppy.sfs (much smaller) are available

Kernel sources if needed should be downloaded from Github to match the kernel in the +2 .iso - all other downloads are from SourceForge.

See post #1

My install of 22.12+1 (no adrv, no fdrv, LXDE ydrv, synaptics touchpad drivers, 6.1.5 kernel) updated to 22.12+2 using the delta for the main SFS only. Nothing seems changed or broken. Dmesg clean, glxgears FPS unchanged, idle resource use unchanged, checkdeps -system unchanged -most of the nags are glibc version related for AUFS-

I am running the 6.1.5 kernel in this pup, Voidpup64, and FP64_radky6, all without problems.

Thanks,

Booted v22.12+2 in VM via QEMU v7.2

This distro boots extremely fast to pristine desktop. FirstRun setup OK and SAMBA utilities are working allowing file transfers via the FossaPUP64 HOST on an AMD processor.

At S15 desktop, after setup and samba connect active, the total system impact is 1% on idle. This is less than the HOST desktop system uses.

Anyone who wants a full system running along side your host distro, here's a stanza that works:

Code: Select all

qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -m 2G -vga std -smp 2 -device AC97 -net nic -net user -cdrom S15Pup64-22.12+2-T.iso

Thanks @peebee for this fine effort

@ peebee

I am trying out your S15Pup 32bit, latest edition, and I am quite pleased with it -

If all goes as well as at the moment then I will switch to this as my daily OS -

This is due to the fact that my present OS (BionicPup 32) is no longer supported by you -

So -

To able / disable Screensaver I have to :

Applications > Desktop > Screensaver setup then use the Screensaver settings, tick/untick Enable screen saver -

Is it possible to add Screensaver to Tray 1 on the desktop in order to bypass the above -

If it is would you be good enough to walk me through how to do it in 'user language' as I have no coding knowledge -

In BionicPup 32 I achieved this via JWM Tray-configuration > Buttons -

I find this option very useful -

Best regards

Chelsea80

Hi @Chelsea80 - some thoughts:

1. Github builds of BionicPup32 will continue - see http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... cpup32.htm - however Ubuntu are making Bionic Beaver EOL this month.

2. JammyPup32 might be a better upgrade option for you?

3. You can enable the Tray editor on S15Pup: Setup -> Menu manager -> then click on Desktop Settings

Thank you for your response -

1. So it seems that I will have to swap over to BionicPup32 NG to keep Bionic as my daily driver -

2. I will download JammyPup32 and give it a try to get a feel of it -

3. When more time allows I will follow your lead for Tray 1 -

Again, thank you -

Best regards

Chelsea80

Hello.

I have tried S15Pup32 only recently. I notice that it does not go into the sleep state.
The same machine running S15Pup64 goes into the sleep state.

When I execute the "acpitool" command, it returns an error message. (see the attached picture)
When I try to look in /proc, the ROX-Filer keeps reading the directory. It is impossible to close the window, and I have to kill it.
I am not sure these two happenings are related to each other.

This is a bug in ROX-Filer, fixed in 2021 - https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/r ... ee728d5f2e, but S15Pup uses an old ROX-Filer .pet without this fix.

Hello S15Pup32 users! It took me a while to read this topic but I have a practical solution, for those who haven't found it yet: At https://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/p ... lacko15.0/ look for the rox-filer-17wi-i686_slack14.2.pet application and download it. Unzip the file.
In rox-filer-17wi-i686_slack14.2/usr/local/apps/ROX-Filer/ there is a file named "ROX-Filer", which is the patched 2021 version, cited by "Dimkr". Just replace this file with the file of the same name that is on your system. The problem cited by "thinkpadfreak" will be fixed. :thumbup2:

I am using the latest version of S15Pup32, dated October 1, 2023 and used this feature on my system.

@Duprate

Thanks for taking an interest in the problem and finding a solution.

Unfortunately my machine still does not go into "sleep" state. There seems to be another factor, but we have proceeded in the right direction.

P.S.
There is no such file as /proc/acpi/sleep in S15Pup32. But other puppies which are capable of "sleeping" do not have such a file, either.
