Re: Chromebooks (Run and install Puppy)

I bought a Lenovo Chromebook 11e Gen 3. $32 on ebay. Not the cool one that folds all the way into a tablet. The other one. With wizard 's help, I've gotten it set up to usb boot Bookworm Puppy 64 and MX so far with stock Debian bookworm kernels. So, mrchromebox.tech the author of all the firmware to...

Hardware report. I bought a $32 ebay Gen 3 Thinkpad 11e with a Ultima motherboard. https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_11e_Chromebook_3rd_Gen/ThinkPad_11e_Chromebook_3rd_Gen_Spec.PDF I set it up for dual boot (I'll post how to do that later) edit: see https://forum.puppylinux....

It's better now.

Ublock origin with Chrome gets rid of them for me. Occasionally it will make me disable it (or just disable "cosmetic filtering") to watch a video, but not very often.

If I wanted to assist in testing of a new version, how do you remove a test application? Suppose Synaptic brings in 30 individual dependencies when you install a single application in a clean savefile. And then you want to remove that application. How are you gtointatuys doing that? After removing ...

Re: MX Linux (and other Debian distros) Getting rid of the password prompt for sudo and pkexec

Hello @dancytron Nice work in designing these upgrades to make user use simple. I wonder if @amethyst NicOS utilties will allow you to generate a remaster with all of your changes as an OOTB ISO for forum release? MX has it's own remaster program, but it would 2 gig to distribute 6 little text file...

MX Linux (and other Debian distros) Getting rid of the password prompt for sudo and pkexec

tl;DR Unzip the attached file, paste the files from /etc into their respective folders, create a user called "superuser" in the MX Utility for that purpose with sudo and the obvious default settings (it will automatically create a "superuser" group), and enjoy not retyping your p...

It's not clear from MrChromebook.tech if I can boot usb boot it without taking it apart and removing the write protect screw. I need to watch the video of that. I've broken laptops trying to take them apart before. edit: apparently the answer from mr. chromebox himself is no. https://www.reddit.com/...

@dancytron Have MX 21.3 installed on a couple of old Thinkpad 11e Chromebooks. Works well and recognizes all the hardware without any tweaking (so does BookworkPup64). MX is a frugal install and have spent quite a bit of time configuring trying to get it to be as good as Puppy  . PITA :thumbdo...

Re: MX Linux

You can't totally eliminate the passwords. In at least some of the utilities made by MX, they give you a "must be a regular user" error when you would get the password if you are running as sudo. I think what they've done is written the scripts so you only get the password when you hit the...

Re: Question about zram

Maybe mostly of historical interest, but here is a link to the Debian Wheezy (i think) era way of doing zram that still worked the last time I checked.

IIRC I changed the script to support lz4 because Fred's kernels support lz4.

Re: BookwormPup64 10.0.4

Any systemd setup has automatic multiseat support. On the surface level - yes. But you need a display manager (like GDM) that talks to logind through PAM, you need a session bus for each user, and Puppy is a special case because spot and root are "logged in" at the same time and their app...

I'm not buying it. To my mind a "Frugal Full Install" effectively has no layers, that's the point, there never is, and never can be, any whiteout files, no matter what you do. What I'm trying to do is have the only difference in function between a real "Full" install and a "...
