Re: No wifi after upgrade. Need Broadcom STA drivers?

dmsg with no output at all That's good, this probably means that the driver is both installed and loaded. Can you reboot and share dmesg output? Also, you might want to check rfkill , maybe WiFi is blocked through software (shouldn't be) or hardware (most laptops have a key combination for this). W...

@Airdale My bad, it should have been /usr/lib/dkms/dkms_autoinstaller start . No wifi after upgrading Vanilla dpup. (Solved)

I'm running Vanilla dpup as a frugal install on an old Dell Latitude laptop. Typically I have to install the proprietary Broadcom drivers for the wifi to work. I'm currently running the 10.x series (not xwayland). I installed broadcom-sta-dkms a long time ago, and wifi has always worked well without...

Maybe going from 9.3.7 to 9.3.15 is too big a jump?

Which Firefox do you use? Is it the preinstalled one?

Debian sticks with Firefox ESR so updates should be smooth even if you skip some updates like this.

Yes. I haven't changed it.

Updated to 5.2 from 5.1 The update was seamless. The difference file worked well and was only a small download. The appimage installer is a great feature. Re: Trouble flashing 10.x iso to bootable usb key

Kind of strange. Not sure what the problem was. Bootflash gave me an error... saying "This is not a hybrid ISO, refusing to continue....." I though maybe if the iso was not a real hybrid iso with partitions maybe it would work on a DVD. So I pulled out an old USB optical drive and burned a...

Trouble flashing 10.x iso to bootable usb key

I saw that there was a similar thread to this one earlier (trouble creating a bootable usb with Rufus) and Etcher and Bootflash were both given as acceptable ways to flash a new bootable usb. I have been trying to flash a new bootable usb with the latest 10.x.144 xwayland version. I've tried to flas...

Re: VDpup 9.2x encryption

This is probably due to differences in the cryptsetup version between initrd and /sbin. Maybe you should try to put the static cryptsetup from https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/initrd_progs/releases/download/20230105/initrd_progs-static.tar.xz in /sbin - that's the one used to load the save fil...

Re: VDpup 9.2x encryption

You can create a SFS which contains /sbin/cryptsetup and name it ydrv_vanilladpup_whatever.sfs. It will get auto-loaded. I tried that and it worked well. The yrdv sfs did indeed autoload and now it asks for the password for the save file on boot up now for the first time! However, after entering th...

Oh well.... Not so fast :) I got the option to make an encrypted save file after installing cryptsetup. However, when I tried to boot up the system and select that savefile there were errors. Re: VDpup 9.2x encryption

What kind of save did you make? File or folder? I think the save has to be a save file to be able to encrypt it. When you made the save it should have offered to you option to encrypt or normal. If you choose normal it will just be a normal save file. If select encrypt, it will require the password...

VDpup 9.2x: How to encrypt the pupsave file on a frugal install?

For older systems that won't boot PAE kernels - new kernels have the forcepae option and adding

Code: Select all

-- forcepae

to kernel line gets it to boot. (note there's a space after -- )

I have an old Pentium M that I run peebee's 32 bit BionicPup on. I do have to use -- forcepae, but it works very well.
