Re: Frugal install, All apps & files?
Good to see that you are careful to backup. In my experience, a simple copy and paste of the savefolder/savefile together with the frugal files and loaded sfs's can work, although getting a new boot system on a new USB would be an another issue. Using Filesystem --> pupsave backup does the same ...

Re: Wine in 64FossaPup? [SOLVED]
Congratulations ! its great to see that Wine works from the Package manager in Fossapup64. Just in case I need it someday.
And to those who added information about Wine portable, well I learnt something new that I can use. Thanks !

Re: Raspup won't boot on Raspberry Pi 4
I have run Raspup on my Pi 4. Its possible that the image file might be corrupt of incorrectly written. One suggestion is to use Barry K's EasyDD to burn the image file to the sd card. Its brilliant. Also check that you have a reasonable quality SD card, as IMHO slow storage devices may not boot ...

Re: Wine in 64FossaPup?
I agree with Mikewalsh. I have found Portable WINE runs fine in Fossapup64, once the 32 bit compatibility sfs is loaded, and you run the "install" script in the portable wine folder. And dont forget to use wine.sh before the windows_app.exe - eg wine.sh IrfanViewPortable.exe You can also have the ...

Re: How to clone a bootable usb memory stick?
In my experience USB drives might be a nominal value (eg 16GB) but they will vary in terms of the actual size available. It might be useful to use GParted to shrink the largest partition on the USB, ( eg from 16 to 14GB), leaving 1-2 GB of un-allocated space. Then clone the resulting USB. I used ...

Re: How to create a bootable SD card using Fossapup
It might be a better option to try "stickpup" which is also included in Fossapup. This is the simplest way to get started with Puppy Linux other than a LIVE USB. This will automatically format and create a FAT32 partition with appropriate boot files and load up the frugal files from a Puppy ISO, eg ...

Re: LibreOffice latest installation
Why not consider a third option - install a downloaded .pet or .sfs ?? See https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=404 This contains the latest, or close to latest Libreoffice editions in .pet of .sfs. I prefer the SFS, as one can easily remove/unload the sfs and replace it with a later ...

Re: USB flash-drive frugal 'mods'.....can it be done?
Just an additional comment for Mike's query. I tend to agree with comments above. I have always used a savefolder for frugal installs - usually in a ext2 or ext4 partition. But I think FAT32 can work as well, but the savefile is limited to 4GB in size...not that one needs that much. As long as I use ...

Re: grub2 issue with FP64/Ubuntu 20.02
To use custom_40 one must update GRUB to make the entries seen by GRUB at bootup. This is a nuisance if a number of changes to GRUB are required. A better way to go, IMHO, is to add a custom.cfg file in the same directory as the grub.cfg file . No GRUB update is required and GRUB seems to pick up ...

Re: How to use FTP server in Bionicpup64?
I had the same or similar problem. I solved it by going back to an older Puppy Linux and found where the pure-ftpd binary was residing, copied it, renamed it so it could be easily recognized, checked exec privileges, copied the file to my Bionic64 desktop and ran it when required. A quick and ...

Re: Recommend DebianDogs to newbies familiar with "Big Distros"
I suggest Dpupbuster64 + Mate + Pulseaudio. ( there is a 32 bit version also). See https://puppylinux.rockedge.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=442 Mate runs well, there is a good file manager, puppy package manager + CLI app installation. Newly updated pets etc can be found here: https://sourceforge.net ...

Re: Puppy recommended Grub2 text
I agree that the GRUB2 code provided works well with the UUID included, and makes the USB or whatever drive much more portable and IMO, more easily booted. And I often use a host OS with GRUB2, such as MX-Linux. But instead of using the custom40 file which requires a grub update from the command ...

Re: Puppy is awesome but I needed a little user friendly version.
Try the Dpupbuster64 bit with MATE, for user friendliness.
Closest thing to Ubuntu in a puppy, IMHO, and it runs very well, with Pulseaudio on board.

Re: How to install Puppy?
For newbies I would recommend RUFUS running in Windows 10, and a download of Bionicpup64 ISO. RUFUS is easy to use and works well to make a live puppy on USB. If you run the Bionicpup64 live on one USB, the menu option Stickpup allows you to make a (simple) frugal install on a second USB. But you ...

Re: [hardware] looking for new laptop for my puppy
I also suggest the following: 1) a minimum of 8G RAM, especially if you intend running more intensive apps, such as video editing. While Puppy can run in small memory, even web browsing or Libreoffice Impress/powerpoint apps can use fair bit of memory. And with 8G there is no need for a swapfile. 2 ...

Re: How to transfer files on LAN?
I have tried a couple of methods on my LAN including Samba, but ended up using PureFTPd on the server puppy, and gFTP on the client puppy. Works every time, quick to set up, and available on most puppies OOTB. gFTP has the advantage of allowing the client to navigate through the file structure of ...

Re: Unable to connect to bluetooth speaker on Bionic64

Re: Boot Puppy directly from .iso without making a DVD, Frugal or Full install
I tried SuperGrub2 but it did not satisfy my requirement for use with persons new to Linux/Puppy Linux. Stickpup/Frugal are VERY good, but it is not exactly what I am looking for.
So I am keen to try anything which is easy to use and safe. Thanks in advance, Smokey01.

I use Vivaldi for gmail. Runs as a sfs. Loads emails FAST. It leaves other browsers I have tried in the dust, and I find it absolutely indispensable for using gmail on older, slower machines. OK, everything needs to be saved as a spot download, but thats a small inconvenience. Mind, I also use ...
