Not being familer with how the different build scripts work, I wish to ask if building the initrd is scripted or needs special expertise and attention by the dev.

Re: How to Dual Boot a Puppy Linux With Another Linux?

For the file, /etc/grub.d/40_custom, I added the following without any braces: you would then need to run the proper command for the grub2 install in an Alpine terminal. the two links show a slightly different command to run. you might google around for the difference Then I ran Grub2Config bootloa...

Re: How to Dual Boot a Puppy Linux With Another Linux?

Use Alphine's application to customize grub.cfg when alpine is updated, it will run scripts that update the alpine grub2 menu. It will not write a proper Puppy menu entry. try putting your puppy menu entry in Alpines /etc/grub.d/40_custom https://gist.github.com/drmalex07/e9c44b9760b19c6211bc grub2...

Could I just use a folder for its install and share the same hard disk? What do I need to do in the boot menu? Thanks generally speaking of dualboots with windows, I prefer to use a dedicated disk for linux. that said, Alpine should be easy to work with if you want to put a frugal on the same disk....

your working puppy is installed on a CD and runs in ram. when you make an install on the HD, it also can run in ram. dding a cd to the hd is not the best way foreward. as flora mae mentioned, look for puppyinstaller in the menu when booted with the cd if you have problems, maybe ask at https://forum...

Re: Can files be transferred from an ext4 drive to a FAT32 drive without file corruption?

As I understand it, if I have a dedicated Linux backup drive that is ext3, then I could use it for both savefiles and savefolders. So maybe I need to buy another USB for that purpose alone. you could partition your backup disk with a fat32 partition sized to meet your file transfer to/from windows ...

the only people who need fat32 are windows users and those wishing to boot using UEFI.
why would you need fat32 for backup?

I see sda1,2,3,5, in your screenshots which would likely be your c; "drive" and other partitions on your main disk

are you trying to boot bookworm from the same drive or maybe some other media perhaps connected by usb, that would be seen as sdb4?

Now I figure if I can avoid FAT32 altogether on my internal partitions, it ought to save a lot of headaches. you will most likely want a fat32 partition at the beginning of the drive to enable UEFI booting. https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/633651/why-grub-for-efi-is-still-installed-on-fat32
