VanillaDpup space (free) SCREEN CAPTURE how to (Solved)

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello:

I installed vanilladpup 2.9.18 frugal, and I gave it a savefile (disk space) of 2Gb (mainly because this way I can save it fastly for security reasons.

My problem come with this space. although I installed slimjet and firefox (browsers) out of the opt using free space in the partition, this 2Gb are going down from time to time.

How can I know what is using this space... Is there any way (bleachbit) to clean this space ?

Another question. - What program can I use to take snapshots with vanilladpup? I know I can use printscreen, capture active window.... but I want a portable (take a shot or similar to select a specific part of the screen)

Can I use here @mikeslr portalbles software??? (I tried with slimjet and firefox and they run ok)

Thanks a lot in advance.

I have to set aside sometime to re-familiarize myself with VanillaDpup, again. But IIRC, MikeWalsh's [he's the Brit, I'm the Yank] portables work well with it except that on my system slimjet doesn't produce sound. There doesn't seem to be a LAPSA plugin. Brave does; google-chrome does. Didn't test some other Chromium clones.

My best guess is that --since you've located web-browsers in /opt-- web-cache eat up your RAM rather quickly. I use Add-ons/Extensions to keep this under control. In firefox, Ublock Origin and Privacy Badger will keep a lot of junk from getting into your system. Clear Browsing Data and Clear Cache can be run at any time to get rid of the junk which gets thru. But there appears to be two tools on my toolbar I didn't install except perhaps thru customization of what is to appear there: i.e., they were built in and available if you choose to Customize the toolbar. One show History and offers to clear it. The other show up as "Forget the Last" with options as to how many hours to forget.

Slimjet --IIRC, all Chromium Clones-- can also use the Ublock Origin and Privacy Badger extensions. It can use an extension named History & Cache Cleaner which you can run at any time.

Snapshots: See my post here which discusses what you had to do to use TAS --Take-a-Shot-- but also provides this link to mtpaintsnapshot-2.014 pet, https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic. ... 6d23#p2487 if you prefer not to install ffmpeg required by TAS.

VanillaDpup space (free) / SCREEN CAPTURE how to

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I solved (i dont know if definitelly) with this config:

I cleaned all the opt folder (I only mantein Rambox- fantastic program for social, whats app, telegram, mail....what u want) and the Gimp portable, to facilitate associations with programs) and I moved slimjet and firefox (the portable versions u share) to the instalation folder of my VanillaDpup, so they use the disk space (1Tb) and dont use the save file (although I increased it to 4 Gb because I have a lot of space).

Respect to the images, I use the resources I have included.
It's true I instaled THE GIMP, in portable version too, and what I did is the following:

- I configured the left down corner to take a snapshot (you have got this option included in your desktop configuration) and it takes the photo with mtpaint 3.50

- Now if I want some edition, only select part of the image, what I do is (in mtpaint) go to FILE, ACTIONS, EDIT WITH GIMP the only problem is that I have got The Gimp as portable and mtpaint doesn't know where is it installed.- But no problem I go to configuration (the last option at FILE , ACTIONS) and locate where is the gimp, adding at the end %f so it opens this file ( in my computer is "/mnt/home/tahr646.0.7frugal/GIMP-portable64/LAUNCH %f ")

This way it works fantastic for me, I hope it helps others.

Thanks a lot for your coments and help, have a nice weekend.- cheers
