Unable to install puppy in laptop.

Post by kk8 »

Hi guys,

I've noticed installing puppy isn't as straightforward as other linux distros. Specially those using the calamares install.

Here's how the boot loader looks on an old Fujitsu Siemens Laptop:

Here's the error when i select either fossapup64 or bionicpup32

What am i missing?

Are you installing on the internal drive of the laptop?

How did you do the installs?
specific details?

Is any other operating system than a Puppy version also on the drive?
If yes.
What?
Is is going to stay installed?

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

It looks like you edited menu.lst or grub.cfg, at least the title line?
the kernel line needs to configured correctly also, and a small error can make a big difference.

please post the complete bootloader config file in a code block
select and paste use the </> above

a screen shot of your frugal files shown in a rox window will help a lot, too

The error message says that the install files should be in the ATA HD (boot parameter pmedia=atahd ), inside the /fossapup649.5frugal folder (boot parameter psubdir=/fossapup649.5frugal ), and the needed files are not found inside that folder.

Please check that folder exists, and all the puppy files are inside that folder.

Of course, giving more info as asked previously will help.

It looks like a very simple problem, just the boot sequence looking at the wrong place, or some mislabeled folder. The solution could be to edit the boot commands to look into the right place, or to edit the folders names so the files are found by the boot commands.
