Puppy Linux and Windows boot, but all other GNU/Linux distros fail

Post by curiosityp »

Hello Puppy Linux crew,

I have a conundrum. I want to install a Linux distro for daily use with recent versions of QGIS and related software. Puppy Linux serves me well for some things, but for this geographical work, I prefer to work with Manjaro, Endeavour, or PopOS. Someone recently gave me a laptop that they hadn't used for a few years, a 2018 Dell Inspiron 14 5100. I took it to a technician who did a deep cleaning, replaced the keyboard and the SSD, and now the machine boots Puppy Linux and Windows with no problems. But all other Linux distros I've tried fail to boot. Maybe someone who knows Puppy's boot process in detail can give some advice about why the other distros fail. That would be a great help!

Here's a thread on the Manjaro forum with many more details:

cheers,

Hello and welcome to the kennels!
I have a DELL Latitude that will not boot with MX or antiX.
Those two siblings, however, run in QEMU.
I'm guessing it's a hardware-related issue.
