Re: Forum very slow today
Hello all,
It's happening with me as well.
Good job I spotted the above posts.
I was going to get in touch with my ISP to report, no need now.
Perhaps it doesn't like these cold days
Best regards

Re: Forum very slow today
I noticed the slow down last night around midnight New York City time. I have been checking, inquiring and researching. To find that I can't find the exact problem.
Then suddenly it seems to have resolved itself. No idea what fixed it or what caused it yet. I purged all caches and current sessions and it improved. Error logs inconclusive
What is the status on your end now?

I am in the US South East.
Slow for me right now.
I figured it is because I do not own an electric vehicle

Got that error too once but that was around 14 hours ago.
Btw, it's still a bit slow for me now, but not that bad as it was earlier today.

In Russia (the European part) is still slow. At first I thought - sanctions (already tried to introduce a speed limit for YT) - but it seems that the problem is even in those countries that have imposed sanctions. Something somewhere on the intermediate highways.
But I have to praise your Holland NLUUG - it works perfectly under any circumstances
Different devices. Different approach.
Re: Forum very slow today
To me, it seems like it might be a denial of service attack.
If the forum is using Cloudflare's protection from denial of service attacks
most of the malicious attempts to connect would be blocked,
but not all,
so the effect would be a noticeable slow down of the forum,
but not so slow that it makes the forum unusable.
If it is a denial of service attack, the web host might not like it,
and there is often a demand from the perpetrators for money.
and often a demand for money from people pretending to be responsible for the denial of service attack.
Or it could be a denial of service attack to web pages hosted by the same servers that host the forum.

Re: Forum very slow today
We already got kicked off a host provider because of a DDoS attack. It's possible something is attacking the forums search function. or there is massive amounts of traffic looking at the site at once. I'll try out some things to determine better what is happening.
It's really slow for me here in Connecticut. And everything else is fast.

Re: Forum very slow today
The forum was slow to respond this morning and it's slow this afternoon (3 PM). By slow I mean it takes 10~30 seconds to respond to a button click.

Re: Forum very slow today
I have been in contact with the IT guys at the host server. They have now tested and see an abnormal delay in load and response times. So a higher level of the tech dept. is now looking into it.
To speed things up here, I will have to ask a member of our team who specializes in server optimization to take care of this for you. Your reference number is <xxxxxxx>. They will email you once the issue is resolved.

Re: Forum very slow today
here in Connecticut it's really slow. There is an engineer looking into it and the IT people will email me when they have resolved the problem. Some server optimization. was being looked at.
At the host service they are aware of the problem having run a few tests after I described the problem. So far I don't see an improvement. Earlier today the system suddenly was performing really well and the response and load times were fast but that disappeared again.
I have not gotten an email yet so not expecting its fixed until then. Bluehost has been so far good with the service.

Re: Forum very slow today
@rockedge :-
This started for me last weekend.....and has steadily deteriorated over the course of this week, going from slow to worse, then "snail's pace". I've had the same SQL error/time-out notice as Will, half-a-dozen times today already.....yet everything else I browse is working normally. So I tend to agree with the theory of another DDOS attack; not necessarily at us, but aimed at another user of the same shared server? Or maybe it's the provider itself that's being targeted.....or perhaps being caught up in something much, MUCH larger?
(*shrug*)
Mike.
Re: Forum very slow today
I just got the User 'puppylin_admin' has exceeded the 'max_connections_per_hour' resource (current value: 1) [1226]
message.
Is this an attempt to get the the administrator's password by brute force ?
which, like a DDoS attack would slow things down.
Or do they have the admin's password and are logging in over and over again.
1226 connections per hour is about 20 times per minute, or once every 3 seconds.
(if 1226 is the number if connections per hour)
If they have a working password are they connecting 20 times per minute to keep the admin from logging in?
If they don't have the password are they trying to get it using an app to break the password? If so, it would slow things down. And if the password is weak, it could eventually be broken.
Or is it a corrupted sql data base, I'm sure someone suggested it.
