What topic icons indicate. No one reads the FAQ, but added some good info anyway

Topic icons are more than just a icon.

They also give you specific information based on visual changes to them.

Here is a chart on what the different changes indicate to you.
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... p15756286/

The link to this chart is now in the forum FAQ, under the question:
What are topic icons?

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Topic icons are more than just a icon.

Good. But I'm still at a loss. Sometimes the icon is the usual "with lines". And then the same icon turns into an icon with a "bonfire", that is, the topic becomes hot.

Why? Does the forum engine do this when there are a certain number of posts in the topic? Or is someone doing it manually (moderator, topic author)? Maybe Harry Potter is involved :) ?

Different devices. Different approach.

I forgot to add it. Sometimes there are 1000+ posts in a topic and it doesn't get "hot". And sometimes it becomes almost immediately. That's why I'm asking about a possible "manual" intervention.

from chart post wrote:

A hot topic is one with X number of replies. If I remember rightly you can set that value in the post settings. I think the default is 25.

Yes, it is an automatic change being done by the phpBB software, that is running the forum.

I think there is also, a control by how many posts per day setting, in the forum configuration.

Really, rockedge needs to answer your question.
He setup the forum and knows some things, we moderators, have no control over.

At this time the Popular topic threshold is set to 25 posts.

We could experiment with the setting.
