Internet Explorer's run finally comes to an end

Post by scsijon »

if in wrong spot, moderators please move.

As of Wednesday, Microsoft will no longer support the once-dominant browser that legions of web surfers loved to hate — and a few still claim to adore. The 27-year-old application now joins BlackBerry phones, dial-up modems and Palm Pilots in the dustbin of tech history. Now we have to worry about it's replacement "edge".

Hardly surprising really and it lasted longer than expected.
Edge being more compatible being chromium based will of course become microsoft's flagship browser.

A March survey by information technology resource provider Keyman's Net revealed a large number of organizations in Japan relied on Internet Explorer, with 49% of respondents saying they used the browser for work.

They said the browser was used for employee attendance management, expenses settlement and other internal tools. In some cases, they have no choice but to use Internet Explorer because of clients' systems used to handle orders. Over 20% of these respondents did not know or had not figured out how to transition to other browsers after Internet Explorer's retirement.

Actually i stand corrected good sir.. :oops: :oops:
of course i made my comment without info on the amount of say xp and windows 7 users who stick with those operating systems so this might be a projection by microsoft in terms of edge usage for the next 5 years for example and so they may think it would be expedient to retire IE by then.

Atually...nobody is correct or wrong in the quoted remarks! You see, MS Edge on Windows also has "Open in IE" mode...so those organizations that have not
yet migrated off IE can still use their applications! That is provided they don't go stupid and completely uninstall IE!
Personal note...I have a newish laptop/netbook, Dell Latitude 3190 11.6 inch...Windows 10 Education 64bit...I have zero complaints so far with the
new MS Edge, it is actually pretty good...I just turn telemetry down to lowest settings, and don't use a MS account to login, etc, etc

@Wiz57 :-

If I remember correctly, Internet Exploder is so tightly integrated with Windows Explorer that if you DO try to "uninstall" it, you run a real risk of completely bricking your Windoze install.

(Heh. Might not be such a bad thing at that.......'tis a good excuse to install Linux instead!) :lol: :lol:

@mikewalsh
MS is gradually removing the interdependence of Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer...this new netbook I'm using I've never used
IE with, only the new chromium based Edge. I'm probably in the minority of members here at this forum in that I have never had any
real issues with MS Windows, maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe cautious of what I put on my computer and what sites I visit. I'm also one
of those people that are very slow to embrace new versions of operating systems, Windows included (Win 10 has been around since
2015...7 years isn't that long is it? LOL) I held onto Win3.11 until Win98SE had already been released, and still skipped 98, went with
95, prior to 95 I ran 3.11 with tha Calmira shell that made 3.X appear like 9X, hehe! That also explains my preference for Slackware
based Puppies! No big rush for the latest and greatest that just might crash and burn!

Use in Japan by 5/2022: IE on desktops 1.53% , XP on desktops: 0.39% , but that's "general public" use. Corporate and government use is probably much higher and more critical.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
