DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) circumvention utilities

Post by Grey »

What is this shit? Software designed to bypass Deep Packet Inspection systems found in many Internet Service Providers which block access to certain websites.
Let's try to build a chain in the order of "what is based on what".

zapret. Linux version of this project: GoodbyeDPI. Suitable for all countries, but contains some tricks specifically for Russia (to fight russian regulator Roskomnadzor).

PowerTunnel. A proxy+GoodbyeDPI based on a previous project. Written in Java.

Green Tunnel. And again the tunnel. Green this time :)

SpoofDPI. The last participant of our show. Based on a previous project+GoodbyeDPI. Written in Go.

It is easy to see that the progenitor of these projects is GoodbyeDPI for Windows ( :) ), authored by ValdikSS, who decided to help Russian Windows users fight the arbitrariness of the local Internet regulator :)

Valuable in Puppy?

The Puppy family of systems continues to be Linux :) Therefore, the corresponding versions may well come in handy.

Is it something we should be looking at in the broader global situation or is it useful only in places like Russia/eastern europe etc where state interference impacts the internet?

I have no doubt that State control is growing throughout the world. The internet by its very design was a kind of open system, so in that sense both vulnerable to attack, but also a kind of freedom. Fear of migrations of people has resulted in ever-increasing restrictions to all of us, and far more still to some. It is a sad world when the modern human becomes less able to travel and see it. The internet just becomes part of that State, passports/visas, controlled world. We are stuck in our limited view boxes and become lesser because of it, and grow in fear and distrust of each other. Our minds shrink, and grow narrow, hateful, and small.

Under certain circumstances (for example, the threat of revolutionary sentiments), the state will interfere with the operation of the Internet in ANY country.
Eastern Europe differs from Western Europe in this respect only by its geographical location, but not by its mentality.

If the blocking method coincides with the methods of programs from the topic, then it means lucky.

In some regions of one country (Ukraine), the authorities are now forcibly removing satellite dishes from homes. Well, this is so that the residents of the houses do not find out that Moscow offers them a pension and all sorts of privileges. And it is not known for sure what the residents will choose after that and to whom they will be loyal...

In such cases, no software methods will help.

Major concerns here are not at state level, much broader control mechanism in play. Good vs. Evil, it is that simple.
