You're more of a system creator, but I'm trying to understand from a user standpoint:

Lubuntu ditched LXDE for LXQt during Bionic.

Have you shared you feelings about maintaining LXDE?

Why should a user lean towards one or the other?

I have good books I don't write for:
a) no monetary objective
b) a belief they wouldn't be read

Fixing either would be good enough motive. Distro adoption seems more haphazard word-of-mouth.

After my challenges with the useful but quaint 32Slacko 6, I would probably boot 64 Bionic.

Fairly easy to do..... can maybe be made for other recent Pups (it is built from Arch64 components and S15Pup64 is "too old"....) such as VoidPup64

Hi @peebee

I wanted to try out your offering and am a bit confused as to what I need to do next

I have an ISO and a delta file.

Image

I am guessing that the delta file will update the ISO?

I am unsure was what to do next

Can you let me know or if anyone else can point me in the right direction?

Hi Jasper

You have the +0 .iso and the delta from +4 to +5l ........ so you have a step missing - the +0 to +4 delta:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lxpup/ ... a/download

Click on the deltas in turn to produce the +4 .iso and then the +5l .iso

Click on the +5l .iso to open it and copy the .sfs files to your frugal install directory.

Move the LXQt-bdrv to the same directory and then rename it to just bdrv (i.e. remove LXQt-)

Reboot into the new install.

@peebee

Managed to update the ISO with all the delta files

Is it also possible to update the kernel?

How would I accomplish this?

This the current content of my installation:

Don't know if this is included but......try in a terminal change_kernels
If so it's a nice GUI and makes a switch easy when using a 32 bit huge type kernel version compiled with AUFS. Otherwise extract and open the downloaded 32 bit huge kernel package directory. Inside are files that replace those in your distro. Make sure the names match, so rename if needed.

Swap the vmlinuz and zdrv SFS and depending on the version of the kernel swap in the fdrv SFS.

In theory this should work

Yes - you need to replace the 2 files: vmlinuz & zdrv***

You need a 64-bit kernel for LxPupSc64 - try: https://sourceforge.net/projects/lxpup/ ... 2/download
click to open it and extract kernel-modules and vmlinuz and rename them appropriately.

On your screenshot - the 30MB drv*** file looks odd - what is it???? - probably a renamed LXQt bdrv?

LXQt 2.0.0 based on Qt ≥ 6.6 announced

Post by peebee »

The LXQt team announces the release of LXQt 2.0.0, the Lightweight Qt Desktop Environment.
Highlights
General

LXQt 2.0.0 is based on Qt ≥ 6.6. For supporting styling and LXQt File Dialog with Qt5-based apps, libqtxdg-3.12.0, lxqt-qtplugin-1.4.1 and libfm-qt-1.4.0 can be installed alongside their Qt6-based versions in LXQt 2.0.0.
PCManFM-Qt's desktop module, LXQt Runner and LXQt Desktop Notifications are completely ready to be used under Wayland compositors which support the "layer shell protocol", like LabWC, Wayfire, kwin_wayland, Hyprland, Sway,…
Wayland will be the main target for LXQt 2.1.0, as Qt6 was for LXQt 2.0.0. The components which are not ready for Wayland yet include ScreenGrab, LXQt Global Shortcuts, LXQt Panel's task-bar and keyboard indicator (but LXQt Panel can be used under Wayland without those plugins), some input settings, and settings of monitor, power button, and screen locker. However, most Wayland compositors have tools that can be used instead of them, such that an LXQt-Wayland session is already possible for advanced users.
LXQt Panel has a new default application menu called Fancy Menu, featuring "Favorites", "All Applications", and an improved search.
QTerminal is the only app whose Qt6 port will be released separately -- complications were encountered due to the removal of legacy encodings in Qt6. Until then, its Qt5 version 1.4.0 could be used.

As you have successfully compiled with QT6

Can I bring to your attention another QT (5) based desktop environment:

https://github.com/theCheeseboard/thedesk

I have not compiled it myself

Depends what you mean by "all"..... qterminal is still Qt5 (as is obconf-qt) so they won't be there until Qt6 versions appear.....
