glibc upgrade to 2.20 -- Battleshooters & other upgrades

Post by mikeslr »

Many current web-browsers (and some other applications) have glibc library dependencies newer than the glibc libraries built into older Puppies. Battleshooter developed a technique and provided the pets to enable an upgrade. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 989#806989. Unfortunately, the repo on which they were located is no longer available. Fortunately, perdido located and posted links to copies on https://archive.org/. Links from this post, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 50#1038850. I recall Mike Walsh provided a package, but I can't find it.

Caution: Per Battleshooter "Installation order: GCC last." Also note that "anything compiled with the new glibc will not work with an older glibc."

Warning: This upgrade may also break already installed applications. Backup your SaveFile/Folder before undertaking it. As the primary reason for doing so is likely so that you can use a newer web-browser, I recommend that you first try to use one of watchdog's palemoons with glibc tweaked to see if that adequately meets your needs.

Current web-browsers may also need gtk3. Available from here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 764#989764. Disregard the 'precise' designation. It works under 'Slackos' and AFAIK any other 32-bit Puppy.
You may also need Mike' Glib-Schemas .pet, linked from here: viewtopic.php?p=1118#p1118
