Remastering an exact clone of a PUPPY or forum distro

Post by Clarity »

This section will house the outcome of this thread. It is hope to provide a PET (or SFS) utility to recreate a forum distro along with its session into a new ISO file containing all of the user changes.

This thread emerges an there appears to be a simpler way to clone a user's use of a distro along with all of his session(s) changes.

I want to mention that there is a RemasterClone PET that has been recently created here.

I will post USER contributions here.

This thread centers on building the clone by combining its ISO file with its SAVED session to make a new, all inclusive ISO file.

I do NOT have the skillset needed to do such, and am asking this community to please commment, build and present soltuions for such a remaster to ISO approach.

Here's my preliminary idea:
Method #1 (this method needs to know where the SFS should be placed or "NAMED" such that the booting INIT can properly build the desktop)

  1. Make a SFS of the SAVE session's folder

  2. open the ISO file

  3. deposit the SFS

  4. close the ISO file

Method #2 (I have a sneaking suspicion that this method may be missing a thought or 2)

  1. Open the ISO file

  2. open the PUP's SFS

  3. overlay the Session folder contents into the PUP's SFS

  4. save the new SFS

  5. Rename the new SFS to replace the old PUP's SFS

  6. close the ISO file

I foresee 2 Linux features necessary to this to occur

  • ISO master to open-save-close any ISO file

  • mksquashfs to create an SFS from Session folders

To create a SFS from a session folder I think this example is reasonable and welcome any updates or corrections:
mksquashfs /Sessions/dpupbw64save-v1008_Radky /Sessions/dpupbw64save-v1008_Radky.sfs -xattrs -no-fragments -progress

is any thing missing in the options use of this command for Method #1?
