Small collection of Trash icons...

Post by mikewalsh »

Evening, kiddiwinks.

Following Governor's thread(s) about Rox's selection/delete functions not working correctly, I now understand just how the "Trash" ROX-app was meant to work.

I've never actually used it in anger, despite always keeping it on the desktop. I've always just 'Deleted' things. Of course, it was built to emulate the Windows 'Recycle Bin', from whence you can 'Restore' something if required......and in Windows, from what I dimly recall, you can ONLY 'Delete' items from within the 'Recycle Bin'. That option doesn't exist outside it.

I got to thinking. I don't actually like any of the existing trashcan icons in Puppy themes or in specific Puppies.....with one exception. I DO like the trashcan icons Barry used in Precise 5.7.1......because they are VERY similar to those used in BeOS of the late 90s (the forerunner of HaikuOS, where they are STILL used to this day!)

I performed some DuckDuckGo-fu, and found a couple of sets I could live with (Sets 1 and 2, below). I then got to thinking; colour is more important than a fancy icon. For me, it's far easier to just glance at the icon colour to see if there's anything in there or not......hence the rationale behind Sets 3, 4 and 5. Green, nothing in there; red, summat's lurking within.....

Only half a dozen sets, so a "petite" selection, guys'n'gals. Sets 3, 4 and 5 I threw together this afternoon; in fact, Set 5 was downloaded as-is, after I thought about the "colour-coding" thing.

IF anybody's interested, I've attached the set (including instructions) below. Enjoy!

Ummm, Mike my friend, you're misinformed! I can delete things in Windows, from all the way back to Win3X thru current Win11 24H2...
simply right click, hold down the shift key, and BAM...gone, no worry with Recycle Bin. Worked that way with Win3X File Mangler, and
still works that way in Windows Exploder...File Manager and Windows Explorer. In my Slackware Pups I use PcManFM and, wouldn't you
know it...right click, hold shift key, and it deletes whatever it is I'm wanting gone. As for Rox, I don't use it much, but seems I remember
doing that in Slacko 6.3.2. :D

I am now using 3rd one.

I like the red green color change, along with showing something in it.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

@Wiz57 :-

Ah, well; there ya go, mate. Shows how crap my memory is. I never actually NEEDED to run Windows for anything if I'm honest; I was never "wedded" to it the way so many people are (often through no choice of their own).

I got shot of it at what - to me - seemed like a logical point.....the EOL for XP. More than a decade ago; so long, in fact, that I genuinely don't remember much about how it all works. Don't really want to, either....!!

For me, Set 5 is MY favourite, Bigs. I'm not really looking at the icon, as such.....what I DO see is the colour change. Which tells me all I need to know...

It's ironic, in VanillaDpup, the right-click item "Delete" has a trash can icon.
(I hope Governor doesn't dicover this)
