Debian GNU/kFreeBSD Hybrid OS

Post by Jasper »

I read an online article published two days ago and was intrigued. Following up I found out the development had been stopped two years ago

Debian GNU/kFreeBSD is a general purpose operating system, an official Debian GNU distribution using the kernel of FreeBSD instead of the Linux kernel. About ninety percent of the Debian software archive is available for Debian GNU/kFreeBSD.

Article by George Whittaker on March 6, 2025:

The development of Debian GNU/kFreeBSD has officially terminated as of July 2023 due to the lack of interest and volunteers.

Void Linux is built by ex-BSD developers which is interesting.

I think the Debian - FreeBSD OS would be very interesting as well, especially for network server and web server applications.
