we know they are out there, but when does helping them become counterproductive to the community?
guidelines?

agreed about the outcome for him, but there is a larger question for the community.

Help Vampires are transitory. They move into a community—as soon as they sense its vibrancy and intelligence. Often they leave (“give up,” in their eyes) when they have exhausted all the resources, leaving the community itself drained and adrift.

This behavior incurs a secondary effect which further cripples the community, and persists even after the Help Vampire problem has passed. Often the “best and brightest,” sensing the outflux of decent conversation, retreat into Walled Garden communities which the Help Vampire can rarely penetrate.

my inquiry for guidelines was not when the mods ban, but more about how do we pick and choose when to help.

wiz57 asked to be able to present a unified solution to working with a single case install. thats reasonable and useful, but I do not think any other new arrival will wade thru that thread and find it

@williwaw

My opinion that all the topics should be removed since they had no direction or positive conclusions.

I'm beginning to think the same thing. They were told that the Forum consisted of members all around the world in different countries
and timezones, and it wasn't an instant message chat type. I tried though, a couple of times. progfrogrock wouldn't stay on topic, nor
give answers as to what the system was they were supposedly trying to install Puppy on! Was it the Thinkpad from 2005, or the Dell??
I'll give it a few hours more, and they have truly gone on to peppermint, all I can say is good luck peppermint...you're gonna need it!
