Android System SafetyCore

Post by dancytron »

An app called "Android System SafetyCore" appeared on my phone today. I uninstalled it.

The comments in Google Play and other places online say things like:

"January 29, 2025
For anyone wondering: This app is designed to look at EVERY image received by your device, to look for obscene images and blur them. Google claims it won't ever send the images off your phone to look, but we all know that's not true. To Google: I only learned that you installed this cause one of my security apps warned me. Don't force stuff on us without so much as a notification, that's straight up malware. Especially when it's something that's designed to impeded MY use of MY phone."

Google on the other hand says it's just fine.

Hello,

Welcome to the Android community.

This is a system app. You might have seen this app being updated recently, there is nothing to worry about.

From the documentation, i found the following

"Android System SafetyCore and Android System Key Verifier are new Google System updates delivered in separate Android packages. They provide privacy-preserving on-device support for Android safety and privacy features. Google recommends keeping them installed so you don't miss out on these features."

Another Big Brother app from the GooGman. I'll call it a soldier in one's house.
ONE BILLION + DOWNLOADS... thats REALLY scary.

I note with some sublime humor that of at least 100+ comments I viewed, the 4 or 5 that were not 1 * had spelling errors.
