Is Brave a Good Safe Browser?

Post by JusGellin »

Because I'm concerned with security, I don't like using Google, but use Duck-Duck-Go.
But I've really have grown tired of using it for it's lack of finding what I want on the internet.
So I am now trying Brave Pet.

What do you all think of it? Is it reasonably safe.
I really like how it gets me to answers so much better than DDG.

Thanks

The choice of browser does not equal search results! UNLESS the user depends upon the default search engine of the browser chosen.
The two are separate functions. You didn't mention what browser you were using duckduckgo search with. I don't use Brave, so I don't know what the default search engine is. But in my Puppys with whatever browser I choose at the moment I set the search engine most of the time to duckduckgo,
occassionally Bing.

you are mixing things up in my opinion, a big salad of things.

Google and its products are relatively secure as they invest a lot of resources in this field. Maybe you are confusing security with privacy? Because google products' privacy policies (on the other hand) are dreadful to say the least.

Furthermore Brave (Pet) is a web browser; they also offer a web search engine.

Duckduckgo is a web search engine which also offer chromium based web browsers software on several platforms (I have never used any of them and never will).

I really like how it gets me to answers so much better than DDG.

Some questions:
- are you comparing google or brave search with DDG?
- are you looking for a "secure" web browser or for a web search engine that meets your liking?
You are mixing things up.

It's not unusual for me to get mixed up.
I realize when I use the portable Brave, I'm using a browser and search engine.

I was comparing brave search with DDG. It gets good information back, I guess some from Ai.

And yes, I was, I am associating security with privacy. I would like to have both.
I have been using Firefox with DDG for many years. I have used add-ons to help the privacy and ads and to keep the pages safe.
As for searching, it seems like DDG just doesn't find enough sometimes. When this has happened I have gone over to try Google, which sometimes gives the information I need.

Thanks

The Slant community give Brave, the Web-browser, has a higher recommendation than GC. But I don't know if its default Search Engine is any better than DuckDuckGo.
For security and privacy I use a hardened firefox. This post will give you some idea of how it's hardened, viewtopic.php?p=19203#p19203, but by now some of the Addons may have been replaced. Its default Search Engine is DuckDuckGo. But if I don't care who knows what I'm doing, I'll use Google-Chrome with Google as Search Engine. Any time you use anything 'Google' Google records it and may share it with others.

@JusGellin

taking into account you know the difference between privacy and security:

for a private web browser I recommend you https://mullvad.net/en/download/browser/linux; and https://www.torproject.org/download (for its dedicated use cases).

for private search engines have a look here https://www.privacyguides.org/en/search-engines

for a secure web browser, generally speaking, chromium-based web browsers tend to be more secure due to their stronger sand-boxing, especially on android phones; yet a lot of other things have a play into a "secure" web browser: first and foremost the usage and common sense of the user themselves, but also the operating system you use, the add-ons you decide to install (and/or NOT to install), whether or not you keep both web browser and OS up to date and so on; security (and privacy) are too complex and fast moving matters to have a simple "recipe" that works now and forever.
