Easy Daedalus 6.5.7, January 29, 2025
Blog announcement:
https://bkhome.org/news/202501/easyos-d ... eased.html
Up until now the announcements and discussion of new Daedalus releases, until version 6.5.5, has been in this thread:
viewtopic.php?t=12851
However, with 6.5.7 have jumped from 6.6.x to 6.12.x Linux kernel, which may or may not be a leap that brings new issues.
The current release of Scarthgap, 6.5.6, has the 6.12.10 kernel, and there has been mixed feedback.
One person has reported that EasyOS Scarthgap now works on their new laptop, previous versions didn't.
A couple of other reports of hardware problems.
I have tested Daedalus 6.5.7 and just-now-being-uploaded Scarthgap 6.6 with 6.12.11 kernel, on four different computers, including my new Zenbook S13 and old Compaq Presario. They all work great.
So starting afresh with a new thread...

Hi Barry. Updated to 6.5.7. After that, my Vivaldi only posted an unknown balck'n white image, but worked after installing the latest version. All other applications seem to function, with a couple of exceptions. Bluetooth is stiill not working, I get the same message as previously reported: 'No default controller available', and EasyShare transfer to Android via USB cable does not work either. I still have to use he old EasyPup to transfer music to my Android phone, so I can have music in my car.

I don't recall what earlier advice you were given.
Did you try this to search for missing firmware?
Code: Select all
# dmesg > dmesg.log
# geany dmesg.log

Barry, here is the output from dmesg.log, with the BluePup window still open::

I made a previous output from dmesg after the BluePup window was closed, and nouveau was not mentioned. Can nouveau really have something to do with bluepup?

Hi and thanks for all the hard work. I have a dell xps 15 which runs well with EasyOS. I have just installed version 6.6.3 on a usb which is great but I have a niggly problem. I have an sd card adaptor with a micro sd card which can only be seen if I put the card in before bootup. Once booted I can eject and reinsert no worries it is seen, If however I boot up and insert the card, it does not show, I have tried two other makes of adaptors and same scenario. This happened on previous versions of EasyOS too.
Small issue, but I was wondering if any one else has come across it, or if there is an easy fix? I guess not many are using the micro sd adaptors, so not a huge priority.
Thanks in advance and great work Barry, much appreciated.

Hi @bugnaw333 , I have problems with bluetooh 5.3
I tried to solve it in F96CE_XFCE_FUSILLI, DevuanPup XFCE_FUSILLI and with EasyOS following @rockedge suggestions at https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=13889 but I haven't got good results.
Can you help my to make Easy identify my software?
Thanks in advance.
Have a nice Sunday.

Strange. I tested just now, the text is black, so very visible.

I can't tell for sure, but I think it was 6.5.5.
As I cannot boot EasyOS anymore, how can I revert to a previous version?
Have to get a 'vmlinuz', a 'initrd', an 'easy-6.?.?-amd64.img' and a md5sum.txt as well?
When trying to find older files, nothing is found, besides the 6.6.3 version of the files.
Code: Select all
# find . -iname 'easy-6.*.img'
./easy-6.6.3-amd64.img
# find . -iname '*initrd*'
./sfs/settings/initrd
./initrd
# find . -iname '*vmlinuz*'
./vmlinuz
Please note that my setup is encrypted.
I suppose the older files shouldn't be in the encrypted part of the setup.

At early bootup, instead of entering the password, just press ENTER and you will get a menu.
There is an option to rollback to previous version.
Note, in your installation, there is a "releases" folder, which will have releases/easy-6.5.5, which will contain vmlinuz, initrd, etc of the previous version. The boot menu will use those files to rollback.

Oh yes, that option is written in a line just preceding the one asking for a key to unencrypt some dirs.
Never noticed it.
The system rolled-back to 6.5.5.
I was expecting that only the kernel (+initrd) would roll back, but unfortunately, all my configurations and software that I added in the last weeks were gone.
Is this behavior to be expected?

You mean configurations and software added while still running 6.5.5?
The rollback should have been to all work done while in 6.5.5.
