I am just trying out Vanilla DPup for the first time.
Since I am an old-time TAS (Take A Shot screenshot utility) user, this is usually one of the first things I install in an OS if that is not already included. I like it because of the options and the file naming shortcuts which allow the user to easily time-date stamp the screen captures along with a lot of the other features.
When I downloaded the PET of the latest TAS (currently v1.17): https://forum.puppylinux.com/download/file.php?id=11883 and loaded it into the OS, as noted in other threads, Vanilla DPup won't run it and comes up with an error notification, that it needs to have FFMpeg or EVconv installed to run TAS.
So after trying to get it to load by individually adding library files and not succeeding, the fact dawned on me that I might just install the latest version of FFMpeg using the Package Manager. I am not used to the Synaptics PM but when I tried doing it with the included PPM, it didn't work.
So I tried a search in the Synaptics PM for FFMpeg, and downloaded and installed it. Then when I tried to run TAS, it worked with flying colors. The thing was, that FFMpeg did take a lot of disc space on the save file. That said, the TAS utility is working fine and all I had to do was to expand the size of my save file.
Hope this helps anyone who also wants to use TAS on the Vanilla DPup OS.
Warning, TAS still has a bug in it if you use the filename shortcuts "%r, %R, and %T" because they will add colons to the filenames. You can bypass that by just using the %H, %M, %S shortcuts till those bugs are fixed. In the above screenshot those are the highlighted regions.
