Hello, I would like to try a Linux distribution that does not take up too much space and I have chosen Puppy 9.5 64-bit.
Point one, vitally important, is Puppy available in Italian?
Thank you.
This is the Italian Puppy web site.
https://www.italianpuppy.org/
Not sure if there is a translated version of Fossapup64 9.5 already done.
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected
Thank you for your reply, but I had already found that site before I found yours, unfortunately the situation is as reported in a user's question on March 4, 2023:
“Excuse me, but is this community over?
I haven't seen any updates in the forum for a long time.
Even the language translation files are stopped at version 7.5 . What is going on?
Thank you and have a nice day.”
Therefore I am forced to repeat myself, is Puppy Linux available in Italian?
@bbrun
First of all to the forum
Now that you mention it I am not sure there has been any recent translations in Italian for Puppy Linux.......I will have to look into that because it would be strange not to have Italian translations for these distros.
Will need to look into the archives and see where, if any, the translation files will be stored.
There must be Italian somewhere.........
I found this , but it is older though I think it might work and some fixes can be updated using the MoManger
program to edit the language pack.
Please install and try this language pack for Italian -> https://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/p ... 130109.pet
Perhaps downloading the last available Italian language packs from the Italian forum could be the base to start an update edit with MoManager
HI @bbrun :
I am using EasyOS, but I think you can do something similar in puppy.
Hope it helps u.
Ciao.

Hello, meanwhile a HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone.
I am resuming this thread but there is no good news.
First of all, the base of my pc consists of:
M/B: ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PLUS
RAM: G.Skill 4x8192 MBytes DDR4-2133 (1066 MHz)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
The system still uses MBR instead of UEFI because when I had these components installed in my pc (minimum 12 years old) I just restored the backup I had made before.
I launched from a thumb drive containing Ventoy the ISO of Fossapup 64-9.5 the result was not brilliant, Palemoon does not connect to the network, which is unusual for a Linux distribution.
If you may need it here is the DHCP log.

Ciao, bbrun. Benvenuto al Canile.
Fossapup64-9.5 was published over four years ago. Like all Puppys, it was created using some, but not all, binaries of a major linux distribution, in its case Ubuntu Focal Fossa, and was 'a snapshot' of those binaries at that time. It was, and remains, a good operating system but unless one has taken the time to update applications it is beginning to show its age. [Rule of Thumb, one human year = 15 computer years]. You may be better off working with F96, https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic. ... 882#p85882, an updated, bug-fixed, re-issue of Ubuntu Focal Fossa, the last version of which was published Apr 02, 2023; or Bookworm64, https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic. ... 020#p89020, based on debian 12.8, published May 13, 2023. [There are even newer Puppys based on Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish and Ubuntu Noble Numbat which are solid but may have some rough-edges. And not to be overlooked is dimkr's VanillaDups which track developments in debian. See, https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewforum.php?f=183 for how these differ from other Puppys, and which version may best suit your objectives. https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic. ... 045#p59045.
Please note that any Puppy whose ISO bears the designation 'uefi' means that it can, but need not, be used with computers employing the UEFI boot system.
pp4mnklinux has suggested that you may be able to change the default language under Fossa64-9.5. In fact you can, But that is true of all Puppys including the ones I've mentioned above. The first time a Puppy boots to desktop a GUI will appear enabling you to select your default language and location. As soon as you do you can click "OK" [Bottom-Right in pp4mnklinux's graphic]. Puppy will restart with your configuration. But you'll then have to open Menu>Setup>QuickSetup to make further adjustments. [Or, of course, you can delay clicking OK].
Your choice of default language may not carry thru to all applications. Some may have their own mechanism. I don't see any recent Italian Language Packs in this Section, https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewforum.php?f=186. But, then I've never made use of such and may have missed something. Perhaps someone else can advise you..
Any changes you make will be written to a SaveFile/Folder which is mounted on each boot-up. https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic. ... 818#p63818. When you are satsified, you ca remaster your Puppy to create your personalized version. If nicOS-Utility-Suite does not appear on your Menu --Menu>Utilities>nicOS-Utility-Suite-- you can install it from here, viewtopic.php?p=69307&sid=210b576adc3b9 ... 827#p69307. There's a 'built-in' remaster Application, but it's less user-friendly. The Suite also provides an even easier/faster method of permanently making changes. You can employ its Save2SFS module to update your ydrv.sfs. See, https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=5818, How Puppy Works.
And if you're really happy with your Remaster and think it may be useful to others, you have the right to publish your Cucciolo Italiano and add a thread to https://www.italianpuppy.org/
Hi mikeslr.
I got Fossapup 9.6 and Firefox is working.
However, upon further examination of the site, it seems to me that Puppy is in constant and rapid evolution and that forum participants make as many constant and rapid variations to adapt it to their needs.
Regarding the many links you list the first one leads to Fossapup 9.6 and so far we are there.
Others lead to Puppy executions made by “fishing” from other distributions (but is there such a thing as Puppy-Puppy?), explain how to build it, or lead to sites in Italian that talk about it, but are now decommissioned.
But I am an ignoramus about Linux and I don't know English, I need a distribution that will work on my pc, that is not frantically evolving, in Italian and that is lightweight because I plan to place it in a usb stick of the monstrous size of... 1 Gb!
So Puppy is not for me, I will have to look for something else.
I thank you and everyone who answered me, sorry if I wasted your time unnecessarily.
Again. Happy New Year.
