Is there a 64bit version of MHWE?, What takes its place for simplicity/size?

@N97 Please provide more information --such as its full name rather than just initials-- about MHWE. Searching lead me to this, https://www.native-languages.org/mhuwe.htm, I'm not sure a Lenape Ice Giant will fit in a small Linux operating system.

Re: Looking for 64-bit MHWE
What is MHWE?
If it is Linux software. Need to know what specific Puppy OS you are going to use it in?
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Re: Looking for 64-bit MHWE
@mikeslr / @bigpup :-
I suspect 8Geee/N97/whatever name he's using these days is asking about mhWaveEdit, Mike. I was scratching my head over this earlier today...
Moments ago I was looking in the Menu for something, and just happened to glance into the Multimedia sub-menu. Talk about hitting you in the face! I suddenly realised what the enquiry was about...
I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. And 8Geee/N97/whoever, if I'm right, has always used 32-bit Pups in the past.....mostly his own re-mastered spin on jemimah's Puppeee, IIRC. Because of that EeePC, yeah?
@N97 :-
Am I right? mhWaveEdit is tiny.....but here in Tahr64, at least, you've got an 'ldd' list of over 60 dependencies.
T'other Mike.

You are correct. 8Geee's AtomicPup systems from when he went by this alias is now 15 years old and no longer really viable. The emails for the account are no longer active hence the change of handle.

http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/mhwaveedit/
Builder of LxPups, SPups, UPup32s, VoidPups; LXDE, LXQt, Xfce addons; Chromium, Firefox etc. sfs; & Kernels

I've never used it, Peter.....but wouldn't wdlkmpx's 2020 transform of mhWaveEdit into gWaveEdit be the most logical recommendation?

Just a thought....

Re: Looking for 64-bit MHWE
Yes all, I was 8Geee here for years, as mentioned 32bit running on the internet using an Intel Atom is just not gonna happen... tho I use it off line with AtomicPupXIX.
And my new computer is x86_64, and it seems all offices, tools, etc are now for amd64. Outta the frying pan and into the fire!
Finally, VoidPup64 needs sfs to function.
MHWE is mhWaveEdit and 32bit. new versions are 386, or amd64

amd64 is the 64bit version.
It should work.
BookwormPup64 has the 64bit version.

Re: Looking for 64-bit MHWE
If Intel had their way, every piece of 64-bit software ever produced would be labelled with the 'x86_64' suffix (this being their label for this architecture). As it is, the 'amd64' suffix has become the more widespread and commonly-known; Intel very decidedly lost the race with this one, and the label is a nod to 'Team Red'.....who released the very first ever, commercially-successful 64-bit processor onto the market.
Credit where credit is due, I say. Big Blue doesn't like it? Aww..... Tough titty.
Mike.
Re: Looking for 64-bit MHWE
why MHWE and not Audacity? @N97
The last is just great!
=~=~=~=~
I'm running online-radio called Melodymaker
Listen it here https://radio.melodymaker.org
Re: Looking for 64-bit MHWE
Audacity in void pup >300Mb... dependecy hell. There are browser mp3/4 editors available at a smaller footprint. I might try these, though not popular.

Re: Looking for 64-bit MHWE
IMO you should just install Audacity if you think it's a good tool.
The size of software doesn't always correlate with higher resource consumption or worse performance, and disk space is the "cheapest" resource you have: RAM is small (and often not upgradable), while the CPU and GPU are not upgradable or upgrade is not worth it. Storage can be super cheap and usually you have multiple expansion options. Also, there are cases where extra size improves performance - installing VA API drivers (which are big) can make the browser start using the GPU to decode video.
Some Puppy releases prioritize small size over performance and power consumption so they omit things like VA API drivers, but some people believe that performance and low resource consumption are a direct result of the small size, when in fact there's huge room for improvement.

Re: Looking for 64-bit MHWE
ditto what dimkr wrote. & with little expenditure of time you could try mikewalsh's audacity-portable, viewtopic.php?p=138940#p138940. When not in use portables require no-RAM other than that needed by the optional menu.
Audacity portable is essentially a framework for managing the Audacity 3.1.2 AppImage; renamed just "Audacity64". AppImages often function OOTB under Void; but sometimes not. To update just replace/rename the AppImage; if disfunctional, just delete the entire portable folder (first running Menu-Remove if ran Menu-Add).
