Puppy icons where to get them?

Post by Luluc »

1. I've been testing a few puppies and dogs recently and some of them have these nice Standard Puppy and Flat Puppy icon themes. They are not included in the Dog distro I'm using. Can I obtain them somewhere so I can use them on my Dog?

Thanks in advance.

Please have only one question or issue in a topic you start.

It turns into a big mess, when you have posts about two different issues.
So, please edit the first post, it's subject, delete the 2nd question, and make a new topic out of it.

To answer the 1st subject of the topic.

Look here:
https://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/p ... es-noarch/

There is also some other icon themes you may not know about.

The latest stuff is also here:
https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/w ... ges-noarch

Keep in mind that icon theme packages sometimes do not have all icons that are needed.
The larger in size, the icon theme package, the more different icons it will have.

This is another good place to get icon themes:
https://smokey01.com/icon-sets/
Just click on a displayed icon theme to download the pet package of it.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

This is not what I expected :o

@bigpup

Sorry. I hesitated and eventually decided on the opposite, that posting two questions on such minor and very personal issues (I doubt they will be interesting to anybody else) would be messy, so I consolidated the two questions into one thread.

I would split it, but people have answered both questions already. If somebody ever researches those issues (which I doubt), the answers are there so the thread may be useful. Maybe you would like to split it and move the answers to separate topics? I certainly can't do that. Sometimes this kind of call is not very clear. Organization can be subjective.

This is really good. I would like to know about the licensing terms of those libraries, I can't find that information anywhere. I might want to use them in a personal project. My project would be licensed BSD and that could be a problem.

All the icon themes I have seen are free to use and seem to be under GPL 2 or 3 licensing.

Only thing I can suggest, is pick one you want to use and try a search on the Internet for any info about using it.

Icon themes do not seem like anything people want to control or make money on.
They just develop them and offer for use.

The two icon sets I got from Github work well.
None of the icon sets I got from the smokey01 page works. They don't show up in obconf.

What is obconf?

I assume you downloaded the icon pet package you clicked on it and installed it?

In usual Puppy Linux version Should have put the icon theme in /usr/local/lib/X11/themes

If you are trying it in one of the Dog versions you have to ask in it's section of the forum.

These icon sets from smokey01 are specially made for Puppy to handle from /usr/local/lib/X11/themes, as far as I can see they have no "index.theme" file, which is needed for to use in a 'Dog' distro.

What is obconf?

The Openbox configuration tool.

Looks like fredx181 has solved the mystery. Thank you.

Now you know why there is a Dog section in this forum and anything to do with a version of Dog needs to be discussed there.

As you can see with no specific info on exactly what OS you are talking about.
I guessed it was one of the Puppy Linux versions, because you are posting in Puppy Users section.

@bigpup

I just realized I said something wrong and I would like to amend it.

I mentioned obconf, which is usually installed along with Openbox, but I actually meant lxappearance, which also frequently accompanies Openbox in LXDE installations. It's basically a GTK2 theme switcher.
