Heads Up - New DNS Changer Utility Works in FatDog64

Post by dogcat »

Forum member @wizard has just created a DNS utility named "DNS Changer" that sets the DNS server of your choice. It has a menu entry in the Network menu that launches the program to input your DNS server in a window and retains your chosen DNS servers after rebooting. It is a pet file - so to use in FatDog it needs to be manually extracted and the files copied to FatDog's file system. Tested on FatDog64-903.

Thread with utility is here --> viewtopic.php?p=136079#p136079

@dogcat

Hi dc,
DNS-changer2a.pet is a minor revision of DNS-changer2. It does not add any functions, but the code is cleaner and it no longer calls the external script dns-restart2.sh. This makes the dns-changer2.sh main script more "portable" since it is stand alone and should be easier to set up in FD.

Here's a breakout of the latest 241124 files for Fatdog users:
-dns-changer2.sh, can be located anywhere
-dns-restart2.sh, resets the DNS on reboot, copy to your Startup directory
-dns-changer.desktop, if you want a menu entry edit the Exec= line to suit and copy to: /usr/share/applications/dns-changer.desktop

Let me know if there's an error in these instructions (not a FD user).

You can download the attached and unpack it for the files.

Thanks
wizard

Everything works good, thanks @wizard !

I put the files in these directories
--------------------
/usr/bin/dns-changer2.sh

/root/Startup/dns-restart2.sh

/usr/share/applications/dns-changer.desktop
--------------------
On the dns-changer.desktop I edited the line to Exec=/usr/bin/dns-changer2.sh

Thanks!
