Motioneye - Lagging video troubleshooting.

Motioneye - Lagging video troubleshooting.

Post by dcung »

I was researching something and came across motioneye, so I tested it.
I am using Bullseye DDOG to test, so I post the question here. Move it if necessary.

I got it working, and I noticed two video cameras stream (RTSP) are lagging, while others are fine.
I started to look on the net. And I thought I ask here too in case someone use it and familiar with it.

I noticed that there are /etc/motioneye/ and /etc/motion/ where config files are located.
I know/read that motioneye use motion. And is motioneye is supposed to use /etc/motioneye/ files, but in my case, it's /etc/motion/ that got updated whenever I made changes (thru browser interface).
Edit: It does use /etc/motioneye/, I was blind! and got them mixed up.

I have plenty of questions, but this can be my starting question...

@dcung perhaps ZoneMinder would work for you?

How many cameras are local, how many remote?

Motioneye is the GUI front end for managing and viewing the program motion, which does the motion detection and streaming.

So there would be two separate locations for the configuration files, one for the program motion and the other for the GUI front end motioneye

@rockedge
Yes, I use ZoneMinder too. I like it - for 'heavier' duty stuff...which I seldom use.

For light weight - viewing only, I have been using cctv-viewer, I like it a lot, but I have issue with it atm.
I 'inadvertently' poked the o-shxt-happen-god...
So, looking for alternatives, hence came across motioneye (among others).
I thought I could cripple motioneye to become 'cctv-viewer' - for viewing only, no motion detection, etc.
Which I did, and it works okay, if not for some video lagging...

Just trying to get to know motioneye better.

Not sure if this is what you meant by local/remote...
All local around house - just few WiFi cameras. I don't think I will have this issues if I used wired cameras.
But, just trying to make best use with what I got...
