Tips.........
Full install is still there but hidden to stop new users using it when the default (and indeed the way puppy is designed) is to have an overlayed install (aka. frugal install).

However, if you must, to do a full install open a terminal and run...

Code: Select all

export ENABLE_FULLINSTALL=1
puppyinstaller
=======================================
For older systems that won't boot PAE kernels - new kernels have the forcepae option and adding

Code: Select all

-- forcepae
to kernel line gets it to boot. (note there's a space after -- )
=======================================
To avoid network interface renaming:

Code: Select all

net.ifnames=0

on the kernel line should force naming as eth0 wlan0 etc.

G'day peebee,

I'm sorry if this post is not in the right thread but I couldn't find one for your latest ArchPups by themselves.

Firstly, thank you for these two new-to-me Pups.

I was impressed by the Arch32Pup, the only issue was a bit of an old one - CUPS is not working to allow setting printer options. The PDF printer Admin comes up with a Banner option, not page details. I did not try to connect my networked Epson which, like CUPS PDF, needs its paper to be 'A4' not 'letter'.

All my applications (sfs) run as usual in 32-bit Pups, so it was pleasant to get away from my mini-trials-and-tribulations in adding apps to 64-bit Pups. Arch64Pup gives me grief with wine (32-bit version) but is like most recent 64-bit Pups in this. BionicPup64-8.0 remains the go-to 64-bit Pup for me which just about runs everything, 64 and 32 bit.

But I like a challenge so keep messing around with the 64-bitsers to help pass the time.

David S.

On the usual i5 based Fujitsu S761, kernel 5.7.17 was swapped in and checked in both the current LxPupSc and LxPupSc64. No issues noted there at all. Then 5.8.3 was swapped into an install of LxPupSc64 20.06 +5 in my 'Experimental' dir. Clean boot and dmesg, idle CPU% and mem use unchanged from the 5.7.xx series. Video FPS (glxgears) stellar at 8700. Lidsuspend ok. Early microcode working with most recent intel microcode but still no patch for the gen 2 i5. Mitigation in LxPupSc64 with the 5.8.3 kernel shows:

Code: Select all

itlb_multihit:KVM: Mitigation: VMX unsupported
l1tf:Mitigation: PTE Inversion
mds:Mitigation: Clear CPU buffers; SMT vulnerable
meltdown:Mitigation: PTI
spec_store_bypass:Mitigation: Speculative Store Bypass disabled via prctl and seccomp
swapgs barriers and __user pointer sanitization
spectre_v2:Mitigation: Full generic retpoline, IBPB: conditional, IBRS_FW, STIBP: conditional, RSB filling
srbds:Not affected
tsx_async_abort:Not affected
Used it for a few hours and then swapped 5.8.3 into the 32b LxPupSc 20.06 +5 install. Same checks, no issues seen there either in an admittedly short test. I have been using LxPupSc64 pretty much exclusively as my daily and will continue that with 5.8.3 as its' kernel and see if anything crops up.

Thanks,

G'day peebee,
Just noticed you'd withdrawn k-5.8.3.
I've run it happily for a while in BionicPup64-8.0 last night and now this morning in a ScPup64-20.01-2T if this is of interest re its withdrawal.
Keen to see a fixed(?) version if offererd.
Thanks as always,
David S.

The 5.8.3 kernel bumped to 5.8.4 in my 'expermental' frugal Grub4Dos install of LxPupSc64 20.06 +0 on the i5 based Fujitsu S761 using a 64b Slimjet 27.0.2.0 (based on Chromium 83.0.4103.61 & run-as-spot) from SFS as the browser. I didn't have any operational issues with that browser under 5.8.3 and it continues to run perfectly under 5.8.4 for me on the Fujitsu. I'm working on the error messages it shows when run in terminal but they haven't changed since the 5.7.xx kernel and youtubes and all the other animated clutter that comes with news channels all are ok with it. 5.8.4 looks good on all my system/dmesg checks, lidsuspend is ok, early loading of microcode works, and the video FPS are stellar using glxgears. I'm running the install above as my daily for now. I'll throw 5.8.3 into my 32b LxPupSc in a bit.

Thanks,

@peebee

I noticed that your linux kernel source code was unable to compile ndiswrapper due to missing header files. Could you fix that issue? Thanks.

I supply kernel headers separately - see the links at:

@peebee

I already used that however, It still failed to compile ndiswrapper using your kernel source codes. However it sucessfully compile the kernel image at its modules.

I downloaded the vanilla linux source code with the same version as your provided source code and copy the include and script folder from vanilla source code and paste it your source code. The ndiswrapper was sucessfully compiled.

It seems the some headers/makefiles/scripts on scripts and include folder of your linux source code was missing that's why ndiswrapper failed to compile with your source code.

Woof-CE kernel-kit produces the sources and headers...... you need to report what is missing on Github.
