DDOG - zzz-tz-chk in Startup - what for?

Post by dcung »

Hi @fredx181

In both Bullseye/Bookworm DDOG DE (only ?) - There's a file/script in Startup called zzz-tz-chk
I try to understand what it does - I'm guessing that it detect TZ changes - TZUPDATE related ?

In my case, it always restart xfce4-panel after booting.
And the I tend to wait until it finished restarting the panel, otherwise if I 'interrupt' it by doing something, sometimes the bottom (the panel) is missing.
In which case, I have to 'restart X'.

Now, if I remove the script from Startup, I can't see any noticeable difference.

What does it do exactly? i.e. what's the implication of me removing it from Startup?

Thanks.

Yes, well, if tzupdate is installed the date/time and timezone will be set automatically from internet. I had once the situation that the clock from the xfce panel didn't update accordingly, so did put in that script (to restart the panel after the date/time is set correctly) .
The disappearing (sometimes) of the panel is a bad side-effect, so the zzz-tz-chk script should be disabled, I had already removed the script from Sid and Trixie build setup, just now also removed from Bookworm and Bullseye (so with a new build it's not there anymore).
I think that the clock will be updated eventually (may need a little patience).
