A few weeks ago, exton, our forum user (having an intensive developer activity offering us best ISO's in kind of Puppy or not,, did publish his new extix release made from Ubuntu Noble Numbat (=future Ubuntu 24.04, the new very long term from Ubuntu coming in April).
His ISO is fantastic. But yesterday, I did have to make a big update from hundreds of packages and so to work myself on the ISO.
Lover from AI will probably know some languages in connection with AI, especially Lisp, Logo and Prolog. If prolog, they know probably divers software models. A major one is swi-prolog. It is free in Linux. In connection with swi-prolog appears a next name, emacs. swi-prolog and emacs build a major complete prolog environment. so I was surprised to see emacs in the list of packages to update: the actual distros offering emacs in their standard are very rare.
so came yesterday to make a Christmas gift to the linux adepts having time and interest to discover, test or use that special and other proprieties of extix 23.11: complete that ISO to a tiny but attractive (her content) little distro for Christmas.
I did add a lot of stuff
an office with great possibilities based on gnome office with a complete ocr management (only English integr. but you can add what you need!), presentation is magicpoint, didiwiki is present and as webkit was present, it was possible to add luakit as main browser
, also a new experience for certain and to purge firefox (a ghost of it stay in the menu, sorry...). as I also did purge the Calamares installer (the refractainstaller work best! And we, puppyists know the advantage of snapshot, we say for that remaster, made excellently by refractasnapshot, it is the coherent solution).
great app's like gimp, darktable 64 bit, the new one, yes, marble-qt (I hope with routing performance, I did not try yet, very attractive for biker), of course our traditional mtpaint, mhwaveedit, osmo, but also ucb-logo, not only swi-prolog, as it can depending of the age of young's and children make the access to AI a bit more easy and all the books of Brian Harvey are generously free on the web. Or they can edit music sheets with nted (I can not understand that serious distro makers NEVER think about read or write music sheets...).
and that ISO, you can get it at https://e.pcloud.link/publink/show?code ... RGAbUjtENX.
after you have the iso, write it please with «dd» on a stick. I use 4 or 8 GB USB cards or sticks after having (re)create the drive table in gparted (Linux) and format then as vfat16 system. if needing, umount it and set the boot flag (gparted again). Now you can burn and it will work. Take care to do that on the right drive (my linux opens each new drive connected so I know so which drive is the new drive! Before I can continue, I have to unmount it but I can't use a wrong drive. In dd use the drive number, not the partition number (for ex.
dd if=/home/user/download/iso2burn.iso of=/dev/sdb status=progress
) and all with success. Reboot now and you can start the new iso in divers modes or change the language before to do that and then, start.
I thank exton for is splendid work and peebee for his help today
enjoy this little step in the future of just tomorrow!
Note: the use is the same as on extix.se! same user (user), same user password (live or root for root) and save ways of connection with the web (see the text and the pictures from exton)
