@mikewalsh Don't get me wrong, I'm also having fun. But I need an OS for my own old computers, one I can not only give to others but also trust myself. I'm having more fun when everything is automated and secure: my work is not stuck due to packages built by somebody else which I can't change when they have bugs or need to be updated, and I don't waste time on security auditing of .pet packages. Improved security is a side effect of automation, and I need a distro with both if I want to have fun and not worry too much when I share my credit card info online.

As I often share my suggestion on this forum, security is an essential component of any OS/software and the nature of PUPPY linux (running mostly on RAM, I turn off of the PC and *puff* I am good) could lead people to falsely believe malware does not affect us; forgetting that most of us access internet using PUPPY, open email inboxes (which if compromised could have serious consequences as often email accounts are used as endpoint for getting access other online services) , access financial portals (eg home banking, purchasing stuff online using debit/credit cards) and so on.

Without going into details I appreciate the emphasis on security and privacy whenever I see them because improving them not only benefits us directly but also us indirectly by improving others' ones.

@dimkr I share and really appreciate your values and point of views about automation, security, simplicity, scalability, spartan I would also say.

I would like to be able to do what you have done, but I got stuck after a WPS Office SFS I created didn't work (missing library that was there), so stripping a complete OS and building it back up is beyond me at the moment.

BookwormPup64 contains the ancient YASSM v4.5. By 2020, the YASSM project was at v4.7 and had stopped using pnscan.

YASSM is currently at v4.8 and is maintained in the Starter Kit project.

I will gladly test it. I would like to try this also on a KLV type distro

Attached. You will notice that the default Options line is now "vers=2.0". I don't know if that is valid for the Samba servers in Puppy.

Installed and tested on a NoblePup64. Had to install:

apt install -y cifs-utils dnsutils

Once these were ready YASSM worked! Connected to SAMBA shares on a KLV-Airedale

Tested on KLV-Airedale-sr15 installed manually from the PET since I don't have yet a conversion script from .pet to .xbps.....yet.

Needed to install the cifs-utils package, then YASSM 4.8 worked well right away. I might include cifs-utils in KLV-Airedale builds in the next round, and possibly YASSM because it plays well with Rox-filer 2.11 which is included in KLV-Airedale

What is this Noblepup? Why no link to it? And what is KLV-Airedale-sr15? Did you expect me to hunt through all that KL stuff to find it?

The Starter Kit project has been around for six years. Anyone who was genuinely interested in it could find it easily. Just like they could find Fatdog. Or EasyOs. Or any of the KLs. At last count, the thread has been viewed over 100 thousand times. Somebody was able to find it.

Well just like you somehow miss what KLV-Airedale is for the last 5 years and what NoblePup64 is. Being that NoblePup follows Bionicpup and Fossapup and Jammypup I find this explanation is lacking something......get what I mean? What did I have to do with this Starter Kit? Maybe I only heard of it now and if you can't be bothered then you better check your attitude about promptness with answers to questions.

This 2 Forums and Wikka already are like a full time job keeping it all running smoothly and if I ask for a little help to QUICKLY locate something that I would be interested in looking at I expect to be treated with as much fairness as I treated you in that I did tests on new distros and without the bullshit just give me a pointer in the right direction.

Your answer is blah blah blah to me and I can always not respond in a timely manner and blame it on something you did.
