New and old Chromium versions

Post by amethyst »

@mikewalsh (who may want to make portables) and other interested parties. I downloaded an old version 90 64-bit (exactly the same version to the build number I have on my 32-bit machine) for fun and tested with FossaPup95. To run these - Extract the zip file to anywhere > Command to run: TheExtractedFolder/chrome --no-sandbox
https://chromium.cypress.io/ :)

@amethyst :-

Hmm....

Interesting find, Nic. That's the first time I've ever seen the entire build history laid out like that, in consecutive releases, and everything available for download.

The way Google do it - after they've transformed Chromium into Chrome - is to delete any old builds from their public-facing servers. They're determined to only ever offer the very newest release.......whether it's of any use to you or not.

It was that way after the release of Chrome 48.0.2654.116.......the very final 32-bit Linux build. The next - and subsequent builds - would ALL be 64-bit ONLY. Tough luck if you had a lot invested in the 32-bit ecosystem, and only had 32-bit hardware; if you wanted to continue using Chrome, you needed to buy a new machine, install a brand new operating system, and track down the 64-bit versions of everything you'd been using up till that point.....

Small wonder there was a LOT of resistance to this move, along with a large number of highly pi**ed-off people.

Thanks for the info, and the link! :thumbup:

Mike. ;)

Two days ago, when I opened a page with any YouTube video in Chromium, I started to see a strange picture. The video itself is there, but there are GRAY elements around instead of controls and thumbnails (stripes, circles, and so on). Of course I like everything gray... but not that much :)

Sanctions, has Google limited the speed and cache again?
I'm not in a hurry and could have waited for the third day, suddenly everything would have been resolved by itself :lol: But I decided to do something. I cleared the cache, reset and checked the settings, deleted everything that was possible. As a result, it turned out that uBlock Origin was to blame. The extension was version 1.50 and it conflicted with the new version of Chromium. Version 1.51 does not conflict.

Conclusion and moral. It is not always necessary to expect that the sea will provide good weather :)

Different devices. Different approach.

I think you've already seen it, it's just that the deja vu effect didn't work ;) That was about two years ago. There's even already sorting for Linux:
