ASTAP, the Astrometric STAcking Program for Astrophotography

Post by p310don »

ASTAP is a useful tool for astrophotography. It can be used for plate solving, viewing FITS files and image stacking.

I have used a number of image stacking programs to create better photos of things in the night sky. Usually it is using a windows program via WINE. ASTAP works natively in linux. It is relatively easy to use, but still have lots of depth for those with higher skill needs.

The sfs at this link includes the G17 star database for astrometric solving, making it a pretty huge download (468mb).
