Is there a derivative Puppy or Dog with Wine ready to go?

Post by dancytron »

Is there a prebuilt Puppy or Dog (Fat or otherwise) with a semi-recent version of Wine ready to go?

The reason I want it is to be able to read *.sid files, which is an image format used for aerial photography and other things that need serious compression and zooming. Ideally to run the free version of https://www.tatukgis.com/Products/Edito ... free).aspx but to be able to view and convert them without Windows would be an improvement.

edit: added question marks

Due to the (deliberately) small ISO size of most Puppy Linux OS and the fully configured size of WINE with mono and gecko, its not a feature that I can recall coming across.

Why not either use the portable wine from @mikewalsh ?
eg viewtopic.php?p=67320

OR the wine appimage? viewtopic.php?t=1754

I have used an earlier portable from @mikewalsh in many pupppy OS over several years and it JUST WORKS !
And so easy to install.

Wine is not preinstalled, but you can install Wine (and Steam, and many other things) the Debian way:

Code: Select all

dpkg --add-architecture i386
apt update
apt install wine wine32

Thanks.

I'll follow the standard Debian directions in DD bookworm and see what happens.
