@norgo, @Clarity

This is a multimedia WoofCE masterpiece in a small forum form-factor.

I couldn't put it better myself. Wonderful! Just the right set of tools for the job. Ideal for simple video editing - especially the included SMPlayer which permits frame-by-frame stepping forward and back (right-click on menu bar to set the associated items); perfect for taking screenshots from infra-red trail cameras.

Very good! A woofce Slackware derivative with (useful) bells & whistles - imagine if even more developers made variants.

I will not use this OS, but... :)
Thank you for reminding me about qhexedit. Only I didn't quite understand, is this probably his successor QHexEdit2? Then it's strange that avidemux is fresh, and qhexedit is 0.8.3, although almost three years ago there was version 0.8.9.

Well observed. Yes, it's a European Otter! As for 'garden', my area extends for several kilometres+ of open grassland, fields, marshes and rivers! Heh! Heh! It isn't all about computers (although they are handy for statistics). Plenty of fresh air and open skies! I may be aged (as 'Arnie' said), "Old, but not obsolete!" ;)

European Otter!

In addition to the same beast, Ondatra live not far from me. Once they were brought either from Canada, or from the USA, well, in general from North America. And they took root. Here the locals made hats from them about 25 years ago. But now everyone has Chinese faux fur hats (only no one wears them, now winter has become not cold at all) :) There is also Nutria. It is again a big wet rat :) and swims well and sometimes also gets entangled in fishermen's nets. The end of the offtopic :)

Well, before ending this diversion, I want to recommend to grey that --while it's already probably too late-- he might suggest to his fishermen friends that they do everything they can to eradicate nutria. The species was introduced into Louisiana for the same reason. "They devour wetland plant life at an alarming rate, denuding the landscape and leaving organic soils exposed to erosion. It is estimated that nutria are presently damaging about 100,000 acres of wetlands in Louisiana." https://64parishes.org/nutria-nuisance.

I'm not going to hunt up the citation, so am relying on my somewhat flaky memory. But IIRC, the loss of wetlands caused by nutria is considered a contributing factor to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. I'm a little more confident in my recollection that the wetlands they destroy serves as the breeding ground and nursery for fish having an adverse impact on the fishing industry.

Otters are actually members of the weasel family and are entirely carnivores. Biofeedback prevents over-population.

Well, to add to this diversion, nutria are edible --someone will probably say they taste like chicken. And it's occurred to me that another member of the weasel family, the polecat --domesticated ones sell as ferrets-- is used in rodent control. Ferrets are intelligent, and trainable. It might takes some doing and a couple of generations, but otters bred to hunt nutria could be useful. Released into the wild, they would pass their nutria hunting skills on to future generations.

You all just didn't understand the genius and breadth of my ideas :)
I just wanted to offer @norgo a code name scheme for his project, like Ubuntu. For example, Ubuntu 18.04 = Bionic Beaver - is also almost a big wet rat :)
The scheme is as follows:
1. SLK 64 Cyber Ondatra
2. SLK 64 v2.0 Cyborg Otter (@Fossil will try to take a picture of otter in daylight and then the desktop wallpaper will be automatically ready)
3. SLK 64 v3.0 Ordinary Trivial Banal Nutria (we introduce an element of surprise, because everyone expects that there will be something related to robots :) )
4. By this point, all users of our forum will know what big wet rats live in the river closest to them and report their local names :welcome:

First and formost, my apologies to norgo for gatecrashing this thread. My excuse (hmm, the forum doesn't appear to have an embarrassed emoticon! :?) is SLK 64 Slackware 15.0 is ideal for easy editing of multimedia.
@Grey

SLK 64 v2.0 Cyborg Otter (@Fossil will try to take a picture of otter in daylight and then the desktop wallpaper will be automatically ready)

You want it, I'll deliver!
Otter = a member of the Mustelidae including stoats, weasels, polecats, ferrets and the fabled Wolverine - minus adamantium implants! Although I wouldn't want any of that group attempting to race up my trouser-leg.
Beavers, Castor, recently released into the UK where they are thriving: one animal has just been recorded in the river Avon which passes through the centre of Bristol. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-engla ... -65276693 With regard Beavers: Has anyone ever read the stories of 'Grey Owl' aka Archie Belaney? A strange tale!
As yet, nobody has attempted, as far as I know, to introduce the Muskrat into the UK.
Coypu (Nutria) are more to the east of the country, fenland. @Mike Walsh, you're from that area, any observed around King's Lynn?
@Clarity

Ha! ... do I foresee an'Otter' desktop background?

You just might!
Again my apologies for the subsequent verbal train wreck!

Only one issue with a REPO package has surfaced in use, thus far. All OOTB subsystems are working and stable, thus far.

Another issue: Installed couple packages including mplayer and mpv and couple more. The packages are not showing up in SLK's menus. Exit the desktop to console, ran fixmenus, and reentered...still no listings in the PUP's Menus.

Package manager used is Menu>Setup>PackageManager and NG. Packages are present and do work well.

The testing is done via SG2D SLK's ISO file boot and running on bare-metal.

No issue
mpv is already installed by default. mpv.desktop file contains the entry NoDisplay=true.
That's why menu entry is hidden.

What a great job, norgo, it's practically Slacko 9. I'm testing it and I really like its performance, except for 2 details: the word processor [abiword], I've noticed that in all Puppy derivatives of Slackware, when using abiword, it is NOT possible to copy a text, when trying to do it, it crashes unexpectedly, and the volume icon is only used to mute the sound, not to regulate it.

In general, these are the only details I have noticed.

Congratulations :)

@yuki
:welcome:
thank you for feedback.
Volumeicon is working very stable and most probably for you too if you consider some facts.
To change the volume move the mouse pointer over the volumeicon and turn the mouse wheel, a click onto volumeicon icon mute the audio output

SLK64 and volumeicon are using alsa
If you've more than one sound card, consider card 0 will be always the default and volumeicon will rule the volume of this device by default

In case you've a second audio device as example headphones and you want to listen music by the headphones do following steps

open menu choose setup > alsa sound wizard > sound card wizard
select the desired sound card click okay
now the selected soundcard becomes the default one
furthermore the config file of volumeicon becomes modified (this is working full automatically)
and volumeicon will rule now the volume of the selected sound card.

volumeicon.mkv.tar
remove tar fake extension
(196.24 KiB) Downloaded 69 times

Important only soundcard wizard(1) modify the volumeicon config

obs-studio 29.0.2 x86_64

compiled in SLK64
package and all dependencies are install able via PPM.

dependencies in SLK64:
libidn11, libvlc5, libvlccore9, luajit, v4l2loopback-kmp-5.10.142-x86_64 ( optional kernel module needed for virtual camera ), v4l-utils, python3
After installation PPM complain missing libJIS.so, libJISX0213.so. You can ignore this message. Libs are there but not in a standard path.

Very probably this obs version will NOT work in other distribution because a huge number of dependencies.

NoMachine 8.11.3 x86_64

is a remote desktop application.
This package has been created in SLK64 and is suited for Slackware basing distributions.
Up to now successful tested in SLK64, SLC64, S15Pup64

Hint:
For audio streaming pulseaudio and/or pipewire is required

Issues:
after shutdown of nxserver the unmount feature ( click at the desktop icon of a mounted device ) doesn't work anymore correct.
A click at the unmount button is opening a new ROX window.
Right click unmount, pmount or unmount via Pcmanfm is working without problems.
Log-out and re-login let the error disappear.
Hints or ideas desired.
FIXED
After change of session, /tmp/services/user_info contain an empty $HOME entry.
The /usr/local/pup_event/frontend_rox_funcs script has some entries beginning with ~
Because of the empty $HOME variable the tilde sign will substituted by nothing and so some path are incomplete.
