Slackware-based Puppy can't see Belkin b43 wifi card

Good afternoon. Thanks for puppy.
Wifi on my old laptop with a Belkin b43 cardbus card works fine in the ubuntu versions of Puppy but I can't get to work with the slackware versions.
I try to load the b43 and b43legacy modules in slacko or the new slackware version but neither will find the card. Says there is no interface.
Any ideas? Thanks so much.
