Please help - I have tried to read your instructions (on page 1) many times, but I just cannot understand the process.

I am using fossapup64 F96 CE and I want to :
(a) install the correct fonts so that I can read/display simplified chinese characters in email and documents
(b) install whatever additional program is required to enable me to input chinese characters in email and documents

I have browsed all of the fcitx files in your repository and I can see a file for pretty much any puppy system - but I cannot see one specifically for fossapup. Could you please show me where that is.

Through "trial and error" I think I have worked it out. This is what I have done:

I wanted to be able to read/display simplified Chinese characters in email and document AND be able to input Chinese characters in email and documents.
I installed the file "fcitx64_4.2.9-en-zh-bionic-21.2.3.pet "
Why this file? Well, I could not find an equivalent for fossapup and I had used this bionic version on fossapup9.5 and it seemed to work OK (although it did change the screen resolution just a little ...but workable).

Before settling on this version, I tried "fcitx64_4.2.9-en-zh-bionic-21.2.4.pet" - but this one totally screwed up my xorg file and after install it was unable to auto restart X, and I couldn't start it using the xorgwizard either - so that one was no good.

After installing the fcitx file, I also installed "F96-CE_3-zhcn-21.0.6.pet" which changed all the menu items, toolbars etc to Chinese. I realized that this was not what I wanted, so I rebooted and omitted that step when I restarted.

So - long explanation I know - but basically my understanding from all of this is that if you just want to display and input Chinese characters you just need to install a 'font' package (eg fcitx etc)

If you ALSO want to change menu, toolbar etc text, then you need to install the '..zhcn' package as well.

As can be seen from that posting, I have created 5 half-Chinese language pets for Fossapup64-9.6-CE using the gcin, hime, ibus, scim or yong Chinese input platforms. However I have not created any half-Chinese language pets for Fossapup64-9.6-CE using the fcitx Chinese input platform. This is because I am unable to clear all the bugs after I installed fcitx to Fossapup64-9.6-CE.

Therefore if you want to display and input Chinese, please install one of the 5 half-Chinese language pets using gcin, hime, ibus, scim or yong input platform:
gcin Chinese input platform: gcin64_2.9.0-en-zh-bionic-21.0.6.pet (5 mb)
hime Chinese input platform: hime64_0.9.11-en-zh-bionic-21.0.6.pet (5 mb)

If you also want to change the desktop to Chinese, you need to install one of the above 5 half-Chinese language pets, plus install one of these 2 Chinese language pets:

Traditional Chinese: fossapup64-9.6ce-zhhk-21.0.6.pet (3 mb)

I estimate you have recently followed this version of Puppy, F96-CE_4 It's the latest version. You can install it.
Mr. icake has written Chinese input platform and Chinese language files for it, and 'half Chinese language pets' can display and input Chinese characters, You can download and install fcitx Chinese input platform: fcitx64_4.2.9-en-zh-bionic-21.0.6.pet.

I see you have been doing a lot of work here! I tried your search script .... ncurses based...so needs to be run in terminal. Why after the search doesn't there appear a clickable link to download the package?

I am after the fatdog combo package. The relevant thread says get it from the 'public folder', but that is not easy to find, with your present arrangements. Yes, there is lots of info on the first post, but I cannot find the link i need....I could not find it on sourceforge either. Maybe some reorganisation is in order....what do you think?

Anyway I want to try this 'icake64-fatdog64-813-combo-est-fghsy-321.0.5.txz'

During the last few days, I was investigating the use of links on the sourceforge site so that I can better organize my 1,000+ files on the site. About an hour ago, I found out that each file uploaded to the site has its own link. I was about to amend my earlier message with the new findings and then I read your post with the link.

From now on, I will make an effort to add file links in all my posts to ease the search/download of icake pets.
