AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
Hours later GPT-4 launched as available to verify the WAR with Chat-GPT (MS) already seeing the updates.
I am expecting an "explosion" in how these tools will accelerate things from document preparations to manufacturing processes across the world, as it is now in the hands of users everywhere.
Please, dont shoot the messenger!

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
What started Terminator?
According to the films, the Terminators were created by Cyberdyne Systems, and put at the disposal of an artificially intelligent computer, Skynet, which then rebelled and used them to wipe out the remains of humanity.
When did Skynet become self aware?
Upon its creation, Skynet began to learn at a geometric rate. The system originally went online and shortly after, Human decisions were removed from strategic defense.
The system then became self-aware in a few months of operating.
Cyberdyne SystemsWhat is Skynet explained?
Skynet is a fictional artificial neural network-based conscious group mind and artificial general superintelligence system that serves as the antagonistic force of the Terminator franchise. In the first film, it is stated that Skynet was created by Cyberdyne Systems for SAC-NORAD.
I wonder, could that be Google

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
I am hopeful humanity starts to behave as if all of the planet's people are a common family helping each other with equal information access, equal direction and equal benefit.
The disparity where wealth sees itself as entitled will be humanity's downfall...not the sentients.
For now, the new issues will be how to handle the rapid information that AI technology presents to us. The box is now open and "they're here" (<=== a infamous phrase from an old horror movie).

Be careful or people will start calling you a 'Communist', Clarity, especially if you reside in the US of A.Clarity wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 8:33 am I am hopeful humanity starts to behave as if all of the planet's people are a common family helping each other with equal information access, equal direction and equal benefit.

Of course you are absolutely correct. The problem is effectively human tribe behaviour - where some see themselves as different and superior to the 'others' and where wealth including all forms of resources is tightly guarded by those who have it. Such wealth isn't uniform either - inside the richer nations, the accusations of 'communism' or 'socialism' are purposively used as a weapon to protect the interests of the most wealthy and powerful.
Alas that religion tends to support that division of wealth, despite pretending to cater for the poorest - in practice the rich often pander to the dominant religion and are the most conservative and wealth protecting of all in actuality. Oops, I better watch what I say or I'll be accused of being a communist.
So how do we ask for a world that tries to achieve equality for all, men, women, races, blah blah blah? If the politics and rights and freedoms of individuals in China is 'communism' then I am not a communist. If war mongering heavy with political interference in broadcasting and journalism in Russia is 'communism' then I am not a communist. Still I would agree that humans need to stop being greedy and divisive and building walls and fences to keep poorer peoples out - the world needs fairness and fair distribution of wealth, and not to imagine that as some superior rich more educated peoples giving handouts to lesser and poorer individuals. Being rich and/or entitled such that a better education was available doesn't mean 'superior' - rather it is a mark of the GUILTY, which most of us in the so-called 'West' are.
Most dominant religions are just the social control mechanisms of Patriarchy, whose main purpose has always been aggressive control and domination of resources (including over women).
The world is a mess. Alas technology hasn't actually made it any better or safer. The opposite really.
And now AI begins to enter our lives in a big way. This is not likely to turn out well.

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
I quote the term "AI" because in reality there is no intelligence, either genuine or artificial driving "AI." We're talking about software. The chat side of the AI industry is nothing more than a glorified search engine which assembles plagiarized content, useful though some may find this content, be it long strings of text, graphics or computer code. In automated chat you're getting the ultimate google search filter, with the programmer's desired results at the top. Only in chat the search filter is disguised in contextually constructed language, an algorithm designed and controlled by humans.
If you'd like to understand who has the biggest stake in AI, look further into Gabriel, the predictive policing systems in which the Security State is heavily investing. The scope of the "Internet of Things" rests squarely in the ability of the Security State to profile your behavior and decide when it becomes 'unusual.'
And remember, San Francisco, California recently walked backed a plan to allow their police robots the ability to shoot to kill. Letting a Tesla do the driving for you can result in death, but an automated "emergency system" eliminating "human error" has catastrophic potential.
Fun to embrace new technology, just know what exactly you're embracing.

Agree.....Most probably will be "Our" Downfall. And now AI begins to enter our lives in a big way. This is not likely to turn out well.
I don`t regard AI (Big Brother/ The Beast) as my "Friend".
The Rise of "Cyber-Satan".
Reminds me on Stories/Myths about the Rise and Fall of "ATLANTIS" or "The Tower of BABYLON".
Quote:
Maybe these are just Stories/Myths or even real Events about the Hubris of mortal Humans trying to become greater than "God".The legend of Atlantis is a story about a moral, spiritual people who lived in a highly advanced, utopian civilization. But they became greedy, petty, and "morally bankrupt," and the gods "became angry because the people had lost their way and turned to immoral pursuits," Orser says.
As punishment, he says, the gods sent "one terrible night of fire and earthquakes" that caused Atlantis to sink into the sea.
"
Somehow Feels like "WE" are at a pivotal Point ......
On the "Road to Hell" ?........
......Or on the "Road to Techno Paradise" ? .....i seriously doubt it.
I have to admit .....sounds quite pessimistic.
Best Wishes !

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
Are you really sure that isn't also the fundamental definition of what we imagine to be 'Human Intelligence' too? Do we really create or do we basically really only re-organise and expand not yet existing patterns? This is the era of Postmodernism, which informs us that everything is a simulacra - a perfect copy where there is no original because the idea of 'original' vanishes when it is impossible to distinguish any point of difference.
I suppose the state of postmodernism is reached after enough people for a long enough time create enough patterns and their permutations such that, effectively, not many patterns are left to be imagined. Then we just juggle with what is already known - research becomes learning what all the relevant patterns are. and then trying to find a new permutation of what is already otherwise know. A bit like ChatGPT really maybe or becoming that way. The computer easily now beats the grandmaster at chess, and not just because it can think so far ahead, but also because it does a better job at learning all the existing important patterns and can better find and create any remaining permutations/mixes of these.
Makes me also think of taersh, our long lost programming musician; is music creation nowadays not really just about mixing what has already been done? Much like computing? Still fun as a hobby for ourselves, but no such creature as a computer guru, or musical genius; and maybe handing out 'free' work (despite overall lack of originality of anything) is indeed an unrewarding waste of time. Better indeed maybe we learn to love our family and close 'real' friends better, and not follow the sheep who tell us what is true or right or how we should live (according to whose rules?). I often feels similar to much of what taersh expresses here, and indeed envy his ability to 'escape':

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
Here's a simple way to explain it. A computer algorithm can "learn" things based on a preset heirachy of desisions granted to it by a higher intelligence. ie The human being.
Without the initial intelligence, there is no thought process. Intelligence sets the parameters, logical process, physical abilities and physical constraints, and most importantly the imperative to thrive.
No computer evolves on it's own from chance elements colliding in the universe.
Humans have the creative imperative to thrive, and the desire to extend themselves beyond themselves, as such, some people are creating a system of "Intelligence" that will forever carry their unique identity.
If you trust those who are shaping it's character, don't say I didn't warn you.

AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
Dreams of what's to come are kinda what we call imagination(s).
Our dreams is what has gotten us to this place in time. And, along the way there have been some good dreams and some bad ones. I often wondered how Galileo felt in his final decade of life where he was demonized for his findings. In my case, I would have been so angered for bringing creditable research to the people of the world!
AI will NOT be the Christian church deciding what it wants its flock to hear. AI will not be a country with a leader deciding what it wants its flock to hear.
The body of information, albeit if its verifiable and factual, will be the body of knowledge common to the AI engine for analysis, and presentation.
What Google did for the world and what Wikipedia did for the world was not revolutionary, rather it is an extension of attempts to put all known information (or at least some of it) in the hands of everyone who asks. Many of us know what people have done to distort or destroy the credibility of factual information by tamperings in Wikipedia. This same behavior WILL OCCUR in the varied AI products increasingly in use. AI products, too, will have to do what Wikipedia did as well as what the Social technologies have to do to police bad information being submitted.
Relational, now Machine Learning, is the ways we use to sift thru facts (commonly known as verifiable data). This, it appears, will undergo a change or a shift in how information will be retrieved, organized, and presented. Not sure how they will 'name' it.
The persuasion of some religious beliefs for Thousands of years is to "prepare as the End-Times" as they are just around the corner. I've never subscribe to that line of thinking, as, the evidence suggest something else.
Right now, we are looking at some breath-taking technology afoot where AI is venturing into home experiences most humans could never dream of. Now, we have to.

That right there should tell you everything you need to know. Don't say I didn't warn you when the doors to your apartment building lock automatically because AI has determined there's a potential 'viral outbreak' or some person in the building is acting out of character.
You'll have to....
stay locked in your house...eat the government cheese...for your safety of course...
BTW, it doesn't have to be the "end times" to be hell on earth. There are a plethora of historical periods and cultures to consider where power structures have run amok. "AI" fits the profile my good puppy luvin' friend!

Electric, bank, water, sewer, Internet connection, cell phone, etc..........
If I get the automated AI, that will now usually answer the phone call.
And they can actually help me correct the issue.
Then AI will be a good thing!
Because the automated answering systems, that answer the pone calls now, never can help resolve my issues.
I spend unknown amounts of time going in circles with answer yes/no, press this number, etc............., and get no real help to solve the issue.
Press 0 to get to a real human person and the issue is fixed in a very short time!

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
This major problem is only going to get much worse. Currently it is often the case here that if you do get human help, it is someone at a call centre in India or the Philippines or wherever when your problem is to do with needing someone to visit your home to fix some problem or other - thus the human ends up being no better help than the auto-answer system. AI will be used by companies to save further costs so even the International call centre support will be hardly available... Then what?bigpup wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 2:59 am Because the automated answering systems, that answer the pone calls now, never can help resolve my issues.

Only if we allow it to, like a flock of sheep being lead onto not so green pastures. BTW - The other day I wanted to make a fixed deposit with a bank I haven't dealt with before but only because they have the highest interest rates at the moment. So went to their online system and started the process, cool right? Right at the end the system asks for face recognition (thank you sir, please look into the camera). What f*****g camera?, I do not even have the necessary hardware. No warning beforehand what the process entails. Anyway, off to the bank to "capture" my details. This would have been easy in years gone by because one only had to provide your ID, tax number and so on but now it's finger and thumb recognition and who knows what other shit. Okay, so here we failed at the first hurdle because their shit system couldn't capture my prints. So sorry sir, we can't help you further if our online system fails. Go to home affairs to get some declaration of your current status. FFS, told them to stick it so they lost a client. Oh yes, before this episode I was at another bank. The online process here went smoothly but at the end they could not activate the account because they needed 3 month's bank statements. What for, for making a fixed deposit? Long story short - I ended up making the fixed deposit online with the bank I have been using for more than 30 years, took me 5 minutes, HOWEVER, the next day I got two conflicting auto messages. The first one an email confirming the fixed deposit and that the account is active. A second one sent 2 minutes later from the same source address reporting that they haven't received my "documents" yet. WTF, no documents were necessary or asked for during the application process. Of course, sending a query as to what documents are needed now to this robot message system produced no response (oh actually it did, got the same automated message to bring "documents"). The banking system here is now a complete clusterfuck if the online system fails, they can't help you otherwise. Now, we have to.

They are here... and humans are so stupids that they gonna use it the wrong way...for sure, "AI-based problem generation has several advantages over traditional methods of problem generation".
irony.... but WE GONNA HAVE A PROBLEM (real problem, not mathematic's one), and some day, it will not be controlled by humans, don't forget these ideas:
1.- AI is becoming more intelligent and autonomous. (AI SAID)
2.- AI is still a tool controlled and developed by humans. (AI SAID)
And from these ideas you can obtain you own ones. (becoming....still.... BUT THE FUTURE IS HERE)
N.B.- I fully agree whith @amethyst viewtopic.php?p=84450#p84450 , because the same happened to me almost each day with my bank, my phone company, my scholar system, my.....

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
AS I agree with all of you, this will not change the worldwide movement. Good/bad, this technology will be impactful; just as robotics in manufacturing has been over the past 50 years.
From my review of the Business climate and the announcements, the technology specialist in the world are already mobilizing on this. And just as smart-phones have become tools for our generations, AI as a tool appears on-track to become such for the peoples of tomorrow (ie our kids/grandkids/great-grandkids) no matter what it will be called tomorrow.
Elon Musk appears to become a key 'individualist' LEADER going forward and currently seems to have his sight set on using it on us for his pleasure. His technology and resources, as he expands on this, is incredible and largely under the radar. Thus, AI not the technology that we should fear.
Good/Bad, THEY're HERE!

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
I just ordered a burger deal and the voice was artificial. which sucked because I wanted the deal on the front sign. so I said gimme that 5 dollar deal with coke.
She said, I'm sorry, I didn't understand that. Then I had to phrase it in a way that I hoped she would understand, which she did. It just threw me off guard a bit.
I say she.... she / it, whatever. I'm not sure if this will eliminate or just allow the drive through to be more productive in other areas. Such as Walmart. I now have to battle the giant carts of pick up runners in the isles, plus they have remodeled the whole store around that idea with giant refrigeration storage areas.
As far as visual and graphic AI, I foresee the porn industry taking notice of this tech pretty soon. Mixed with the realism of cgi and graphics today. boom, cha ching!!
Watch the movie MEGAN, it's quite a creepy movie.
A brilliant toy company roboticist uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to emotionally bond with her newly orphaned niece. But when the doll's programming works too well, she becomes overprotective of her new friend with terrifying results.

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
@amethyst :-
I'm glad somebody else shares my viewpoint.
For a few years now, if you don't have access to a smartphone, you're all but "shut-out" of society. The guys who write all these apps for smartphones use these things themselves - naturally! - and the automatic assumption is that EVERYBODY must have one.
Hence the request at the end of your first 'application' to look into the camera and provide fingerprints (cameras & fingerprint readers are pretty much standard, across the board now). Again, the assumption is that you, as a member of "the herd", WILL have a smartphone on you AT ALL TIMES.....so it's not an 'out-of-the-way' request. Just part of everyday existence, really..!
Those "dinosaurs" among us who either can't afford to buy one or refuse to use one on principle are either "pitied".....or else regarded as lepers. And I'm one of those individuals who, the more others try to persuade me to "move with the times", the harder I dig my heels in. I will NOT be pushed around by those who think they know better.....
.....but, that's just ME.
(*shrug*)
Mike.

AI is not coming to PUP use, "THEY'RE HERE!"
This might seem like a technology that does NOT affect this community.
It is here. I am not posting in support of AI, rather, I am posting this to reflect where it is showing up.
PUP developers now have access to something, heretofore, not available to WoofCE assistance.
it is this and it "Is Here".
No offence to anyone! ... FYI

AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
A letter has been created that "ASKS" the Technology Giants to PAUSE AI releases and their development until a common set of agreed upon rules can be in place.
When asked if they were submitting this lettered request to Governments, the answer was NO!
Our world is now developed into this new form of Renaissance: Voice altering, electronic picture and video altering, metaverse, AI, alternative history facts, and use of these technology beyond the benefit of good indvidual benefit leads to lots of questions and lots of answers.
Dont expect old people to adapt. They came from a different world and are directly responsible to the world of today. OLD people are both the creators and the damn'er...just as WE always have been.
But, OLD people can be helpful, if willing to participate in how this turns out. We KNOW the problem: GREED! We CAN fix it except that some/many will not in efforts to protect their postitions or their views.
In any event, time and the adaptations that we see in all species of the planet over time is representative of how we got here, today. Its just part of the evolution.
As technology advances in time, the scholars for teaching, the writers for creative thought, and technology specialist for even more improvements will continue the adaptions we are seeing.
I still remember thinking "why do I need a cell phone?" (typical behavior for life back then). Today, I KNOW WHY!
And tomorrow, assuming Elon Mush get his way, I wont need it as I will have 'his' or something like 'his' replacing PCs and cell phones. He has 2 technologies that he is racing to get to consumer, enterprise, and government markets; namely neural technology and, separately, sentient.
Humans will adapt to that just as we have to cars, cell phones. etc. In any event ...They're HERE!

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
Let's hope brain implants never reach the stage they can replace cellphones and the like such that we can see, hear, talk, and otherwise input directly without the crude eyes/touch/voice input needed to inter-react via cellphones/computers. The trouble with humans is they will sooner rather than later accept any technology that they feel makes their lives more convenient. Doesn't matter the social control, or health implications - research will always quickly be paid for that 'proves' there is nothing to worry about... We become slaves to the machine for sure.

It entertaining, while being technically accurate.

Re: AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"
The idea is not new, only the object of discussion is changing. No, I'm not talking about Terminators
Back in the mid-80s, the song of the band Funny Guys was popular in the USSR.
Something like this (without rhyme, sorry):
Cars were created for us,
But other times have come.
Day and night we crawl under the car.
WE serve her to drive.
There is a forest belt not far from me. Hedgehogs live there. Well, I can also shoot a funny clip in which hedgehogs beat me in an intelligence test. But I have no motivation to do this, unlike the guys on YouTube
----------|
In addition, there are many nuances. The most important one is the assumption that it is not Artificial Intelligence that is getting smarter, but people are getting dumber
In 2 addition, do not confuse the monotonous ability to process information with intelligence in all its manifestations.
Come on, people will have time to kill each other without any robots and intellects.
