Thanks for quick response, the creating disk img inside this tool is so simple, easy, efficient compared to any other tools I work with: GParted, UDisks etc., I checked the dependencies and nothing appeared to be missing, but I'm gonna give it a nother look.

Most Puppy are packaged as an ISO. But EasyOS is packaged as an IMG. Puppy has native easy to use tools for creating either package or deploying it. As peebee suggested "Say what you are actually trying to achieve and somebody may be able to help." I've just emphasized the adverb. Is you intention to immediately write an IMG to a USB-Key; or archive files as a IMG?

Thanks a lot, I'm trying to backup Partition as img file, and restore it later, in Gnome Disk Utility Just 2 clicks
1. Select the Partition
2. Create Disk Image,
Done, and the same steps for restore it, this is why I prefer this tool

I checked ALL the depedencies again and I'm sure All of them are installed, still got the same error

I want to know if there are significant system changes (for example newer glibc and other important libraries needed to run the newest browsers/aplications for example). I think I'm using update version 15 as the release date was 22/11/2019. I think I've downloaded the full iso at the time and did not apply a delta file. Will it be possible to reverse update that full iso version and then apply the latest update delta? Also - I see there is a Jammy release. I suppose this a later 'branch" of ubuntu so why is this not listed in the mainline distribution section of this forum? What would you say are the most significant system changes in general when comparing Bionic with the latest update applied and the current version of Jammy?

- there is no update log but see https://sourceforge.net/projects/zestyp ... c/updates/
- main point of Ubuntu LTS releases is that major components do not get uprated (although important changes can get back ported)
- latest is +30 so you are way behind on +15
- there is a reverse update to make +0 from +15 - see post #1 - you can then apply the +30 update (if you got the +15 iso from Ibiblio you may need to rename it)
- Ubuntu dropped 100% 32-bit support after Bionic so Jammy is a hybrid Ubuntu-Debian build (Focal is similar) so repository contents may differ
- Jammy does have later versions of system components compared to Bionic......
- I'm not in charge of making entries in Mainline Distros section of forum.....

Bugs - yes but please do provide enough information on your setup and installation so that they can be duplicated.

Annoyances - I'm afraid this is an old distro (4 years old) so any annoyances are pretty unlikely to be actioned - please try the later JammyPup32 and if annoyances persist describe them (again with full information) in the Users thread.

I understand “with no new features” - but

Please can you explain to me what “just updates of system components” means in non-technical language.

I guess I am in the minority in knowledge of Puppy internals but hey, someone has to be. Or need not be if I can be given a step up in knowledge.

I kept upgrading each time you published a fresh build but stopped at +28 because I could not notice any difference in use on the same machine (a Gateway laptop).

So is there any advantage to me in keeping up to date with new builds?

Ubuntu continuously updates the components which are used by BionicPup32 ....

Periodically, I do a new build which includes all the Ubuntu updates since the last BionicPup32 build.

If an old build works AOK for you then there is no absolute need to update, however some of the updates may include security improvements so if this is an aspect that concerns you, you are better off applying the periodic updates.

The links are very helpful as I can now decide whether or not to use your latest build.

From a users point of view, and after trying many many distros, I find that BionicPup32, albeit “I'm afraid this is an old distro (4 years old)”, conducive to my daily tasks.

It is very much appreciated that you developed BionicPup32 and continue to support it.

Maybe try FocalPup32 or JammyPup32 then all components will be updated not just glibc?? Both are LTS.

Ubuntu 18.04 will be 5 years old in April. After that, security updates will be restricted to (paid?) ESM subscribers and other fixes will be provided on a "best effort" basis (community-provided, by the relatively few users of 18.04?).

Depending on what you need it for there is a glibc2.3 pet. It is one of the three Glibc updates that have been on the forum for a few years. I believe they are all in @PipzDex archive in a Glibc tarball. One is for Racy 2,2, One is for 2.3/2.7 and the other for 2.3 along with the installation order and dependancies. Now I have never got the 2.3 dependancies to install at all. However if you already have glibc2.7 installed as bionic does just run the glibc2.3 pet. This will then enable you to install Steve Pussers .deb of palemoon.
Posting now from version 32.0.1. Note that installing the 2.3 pet is not reversible.

While on the subject of palemoon if people are having issues with github assets not being available for download there is an xpi extension available called palefill for palemoon to enable the assets to be visible. There is also a workaround. When you are on github and the assets will not show look at the url for the page. Where it says 'tag' replace that with 'expanded_assets' and reload the page.

sysinfo : bionic32-rc2a; actual free ram 871MB
mnt/home: puppy-upupbb-19.03

toshiba satellite A100 using bionic32-rc2a installed
on a 14G usb thumbdrive. boots, runs well on two
different laptops. identifies filesystem as iso9660.

many times i chose to make savefile.
always followed that path, entering needed info.
page showing actual creation does not appear.
jumps straight to saying savefile created.
next boot no savefile.

i have tried nominating a second thumbdrive
as location for savefile. accepted. no savefile.

using usb drive to replace ailing, noisy harddrive.
after dozens of fails i have kept this one running
just as i like it for more than 5 days. [sysinfo]

my mistake, had this same problem a few months ago
running bionic64 from a usb key. got the good word,
then forgot it! installing via universal installer creates
read only section does not leave enough space for a savefile.

i'll try a reinstall using boot flash, as bigpup recommended. big thanks.

then reporting no room, ending download.

Also, uefi-usb-installer complains that grub2_efi is missing. So I installed it through the PPM.

How about including other utilities like "frugalpup" and "grub2config"? I think the latter is useful, because it detects puppies installed in ntfs partitions.

Do you intend to replace former versions of bionicpup32 with this new release? If so, I think we will need time to test it before it is released as a stable version. though I expect that there will be only minor issues.

Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver is now End-Of-Life so no further changes to BionicPup32 are planned. It will continue to get built occasionally on GitHub with the latest version of Woof-CE until Ubuntu archives the repos when it will die completely.
