KLV 32 bit Startup Woes. <SOLVED>

Post by rockedge »

I seem to have built a 32 bit version of KLV-Airedale I am calling KLV-Chihuahua, successfully. It will boot in QEMU as far as a login prompt.

Auto login is having problems with Xorg server starting. So I can boot to the failed auto login and the login prompt but can't actually login.

This version when started should be a 32 bit XFCE4 desktop with Firefox 109+

All of these problems I encountered long ago.....solved them then and now have to again figure it out

I have tried using a 32 bit Puppy Linux huge kernel, tried a Void Linux kernel, both cases tried both 32 and 64 bit versions. Boot stanza's of various design but just no luck getting a clean system start.

Thinking of trying @fredx181 's script to build a Debian derivative kernel for 32 bit KLV...... :ugeek:

I managed to boot a freshly built KLV 32 bit !! Using a 64 bit kernel 5.16.14-KLV and @wiak 's skeleton initrd.gz from KLV-Airedale-beta15, installed frugally on a 16 gb USB flash drive, started on a 2004 DELL VOSTRO 1500 laptop with 4 gb of RAM.

UPDATE: Running well and very responsive using at idle 201 mb of RAM. Next attempt will be a build using a 32 bit kernel.

Interesting that you've needed a 64bit kernel to boot it, and also what the older initrd? Good it has started up though. Might also come in handy, as you said, for providing parts/portables for 32bit Pups(?).
