The time has come for me to ditch Palemoon. Just too many websites not loading properly (in many of these cases my cpu goes into the red zone). Using Firefox now, a browser I've never liked but it seems to work best for me right now on my old machine. Using an older version 81, so far so good, haven't had any crashes yet (better than Chromium that does crash for me sometimes). Since I have data restrictions, I've downloaded a user agent switcher extension (set to Android phone, Firefox) and it's working very well. BTW - great for accessing youtube (you get the mobile version without the ads). Also downloaded an image blocker extension which works well.

Re: Palemoon GOOONE
Even on some older but powerful enough machines, Palemoon can't properly load a YouTube page. Will freeze up or take very long peroids of time to eventually load the page. Strangley enough palemoon will play the video but there is no control of it and palemoon is itself unresponsive to input until the video finishes. Sometimes palemoon can recover at this point but usually not. CPU temp goes into the red and RAM spikes. GitHub is almost impossible to use reliably even with the polyfill extension enabled.
For sites like this forum palemoon performs well. There is a minimum of javascript or similar to try to get good load speeds in every corner of the world and in a broad range of quality of the connection to the Network. Many have data bandwidth restrictions and/or limited data download possibilities also most likely not be using the latest greatest in computer hardware, so we try to take that in account.
I am using palemoon in F96-CE at the moment which behaves it's self generally, but even on a PowerEdge R210 II blade server I need to avoid YouTube.

I can't understand why any distro would provide a browser known to behave like that as its default. Since the user needs to replace it the net effect is bloat, as well as being off-putting.

I suppose it is because most people need a browser to download a browser, haha, so developers can include the one they prefer, because later it is your choice change it for another one.
It's my oppinion,- Have a nice day, my friend.

Generally, everything google related has become or are becoming a mess with Palemoon. Google drive, google docs, google translate (for documents doesn't even work for me) youtube (dragging into the red zone when reading lots of comments for example), name it. Also sites like linkedin and gumtree not working as well as it should.

Google is behind most of it regardless of the fables they tell claiming they don't. Microsoft already set the example way back when on how to do it.
how odd it is only Google-Chrome will mostly work correctly using the Google infrastructure? Even the Chromium based browsers are seeing signs of struggle because of Google application developers coding features that will only parse and work correctly with Google-Chrome.

@rockedge That is, GOOGLE want to be the only one capable of working with google products.
Do you wanna use gmail?.... go to chrome
Do you wanna use drive?... go to chrome
Do you wanna use classroom?... go to chome
And then they have all your private data.
WHEN SOMETHING IS FREE ON THE INTERNET.... YOU ARE THE PRICE.

@rockedge :-
Not only that, but Google themselves have deliberately deprecated many of their previously-functional APIs. The obvious conclusion to draw is that Google have every intention of making sure that for anything the user absolutely must use, only Chrome itself will "do the deed".
Talk about a monopoly, huh?

Re: Palemoon GOOONE
Can someone post a link to a web site that Pale Moon is not able to use.
I want to see what it does for me.
I keep seeing posts about it, but I have used Pale Moon for years and it has worked great for me.
YouTube is no issue for me.
I really wonder if the issue is with who is providing the internet service you are using.
Also, what Pale Moon preference settings are you using?

Re: Palemoon GOOONE
I've just tried the latest 32-bit build of PaleMoon from Steve Pusser in Tahrpup32. I've never seen this before, but after a few seconds of trying to load YouTube, it not only crashed but completely killed the browser!
Even the latest 64-bit version seems reluctant to load YT properly.......taking many seconds of "shall I, shan't I" before eventually deciding to play ball. And even then it refuses to preview vids correctly....
This is on a recent, 9th-gen Pentium quad-core, running at nearly 4 GHz, with 32GB RAM. I'm not exactly short of resources.
Strangely enough, Firefox runs very nicely in Tahr32.....and even YT is no problem. They must have done summat to it, 'cos older releases of 32-bit FF used to crash regularly in older 32-bit Pups. Current, up-to-date builds now seem to be behaving themselves very nicely!

Re: Palemoon GOOONE
seamonkey has fallen behind also, not rendering correctly and overtaxing the cpu.
I am curious if the javascript and similar code offered by google for devs to incorporate into the offending sites design is responsible for the bug/feature. ytube in particular does not surprise me. big media sites are heavy offenders. in the past, I used an extension that indicated what scripts/third party sites were being blocked, and some of the indicators ran into the hundreds. I suppose if the extension was blocking that doesn't necessarily mean the server quit trying to deliver

I'm using 32-bit so don't know if the 64-bit version is any better. Try out the google drive and google docs sites. Try to translate a document with google translate (not the copy paste feature) and check the result. Get a youtube video with many comments (say more than 2000 or so and read the comments scrolling down. Report your CPU usage (temperature) after scrolling down and reading for many minutes continuously. No problem with the internet service because other browsers are working fine. Generally, check these google sites I have mentioned and check as many features as you can.
From Palemoon's own release page: "Pale Moon 32 has been released. This is an important milestone release for under-the-hood changes that aim to provide better web-compatibility with the Chromified Web. Clearly aware of the issues. Has version 32 been better in this regard?

Re: Palemoon GOOONE
Really, this could be so many things. Hardware/software, obviously, are the first that spring to mind. Bigpup says it could be down to your particular ISP. Sure.....and along those same lines, geographical position/datacenter location/routing all factor into it. Then there's the time of day, what day of the week it is, what everybody else on your local subnet has decided they want to do at that exact moment, etc, etc.
In other words, there's a ton of variables involved. Although from the number of times Nic has posted about this kinda stuff, I'm sorta thinking he NEEDS an upgrade to some "newer" hardware with a bit more grunt. Finally updating from the 32-bit, 2002 Inspiron 1100 lappie w/2Gb RAM to a somewhat newer, 64-bit, Core2Duo Dell Latitude w/4Gb RAM has made all the difference to what I'm able to do myself....

Palemoon simply does not work with some sites. I've had no problems since working with Firefox on the same machine...although internet is an absolute nightmare these days for people with data restrictions. The amount of rubbish that runs in the background on some sites is just incredible. Always seems something that is busy loading and using data.

Re: Palemoon GOOONE
@amethyst :-
Aye, I have to agree with you concerning the sheer amount of crud running 'behind-the-scenes' these days. Even on this HP desktop - a reasonably powerful machine by Linux standards - I get occasions when t'internet seems to slow to a crawl, and more or less everything becomes unresponsive. I found switching to CloudFlare's '1.1.1.1' DNS resolution service made quite a difference; our own ISP, TalkTalk here in the UK, are pretty good generally speaking, but some aspects of their service could do with improvements.
That said, such a comment probably applies to most ISPs at the end of the day. I don't think any of them could be considered 'perfect'......but if you can live with it, that's 95% of the battle, right there.
We were on a "capped" service some years back, and you really had to watch your data usage like a hawk. It's probably even worse now.

Very true. I've noticed that if I download a Linux iso from Sourceforge in the morning there's no problem, all done in few minutes, but if I try to do it in the evening I can go and have my tea while I'm waiting for it to complete. That's with Firefox which doesn't normally cause me much bother.

Of course seeing as firefox is mostly funded by google then naturally it will work. .
Moonchild the palemoon developer has stated that google components not yet implemented in palemoon will cause issues notably with youtube.
It is a game of catch up with palemoon and unfortunately moonchild productions do not have the manpower to keep up..Not the fault of moonchild but rather the lack of manpower as palemoon is basically is a one man band and as time progresses it will become more difficult for palemoon to become compatible.

My experience recently is that currently palemoon is just no good for resource intensive websites, but it's fine for things like forums. I don't use it, though it's built in to many of my pups, and I also have the portable build.

Re: Palemoon GOOONE
I have to agree that is time to pass on Pale moon.
To bad I really like it but YouTube was unworkable. The video may play but my pc would lock up if I did anything but watch. Also many site that require a secure log-in would not work with Pale moon. I too have switched to Firefox
Re: Palemoon GOOONE
I guess I'm just lucky. Palemoon 64bit works fine for me - even on my old laptop.
Running fosssapup64 and latest palemoon version 32.0.0.
No problem playing YT videos
No problem with videos on news sites
No problem logging into social media accounts or filestorage

I've noticed that with Firefox I'm using much more data than before. This is probably because it is able to run more of the background crap on some sites. Maybe I should stick to Palemoon and just use Chromium or Firefox for the sites where Palemoon does not work. A Catch22 situation.

Not sure it will help. The only thing good about Fios is that I have unlimited data; so I've never checked. But I do use the Ublock Origin and Privacy Badger addons. They work. But I'm not sure if they prevent the downloads entirely or just block them after they've reached your computer.
Brave (a Chromium clone) displays the amount of bandwidth it supposed has saved.
Re: Palemoon GOOONE
I've installed UBlock and also using the user switch agent for Android phone. Makes a huge difference, very quick now and mobile pages of sites are displayed if available. I also have an image blocker installed. This will do.

Can you confirm you are using the latest version? (32.0.0)

No but I did use version 31 at one stage (which were not as stable for me as version 29.1 I've been using for a long time). What is your feedback with regards the tests I proposed you conduct. Did you even check it, what were the results? If someone can confirm that all Palemoon's issues with google sites have been sorted with version 32 it will be great.

Re: Palemoon GOOONE
The version 30 series of Pale Moon were very buggy, because someone in their organization hacked the code and messed it up.
Version 31 series was the fix. With each new one it got better, but they still did not really get it all until version 32, Maybe still not everything that person did.
